thanks for the writeup!

So, I just had my car in service and had them check out why my power mirrors stopped working... Apparently, if you disconnect the DRL resistor - as described in this thread - you will also lose your power mirrors. I will live with it until my new ECM arrives that can program the DRL's to be turned off.

I think your dealer may be feeding you a load of poo... I did the DRL delete as instructed about 3 weeks ago. When I went out to the car this morning, first thing I did was check to see if the mirrors were still working. They work fine.

Removing the Relay is not the way to go. Remove the Resistor as instructed in the first post. Ishii |
I misread. I thought FRSpdDmn meant the resistor. I did not remove a relay.

I'm not sure... It is # 2955, built in April. Manufacturers have been required to have DRLs on their cars here since 1990 or so. even if I could get the updated ECM, I doubt my dealer would shut them off. Since removing the resistor, I drive with my running (parking) lights on so there is some sort of light showing at the front. I think this looks much better than DRLs, and many other sporty cars use the marker lights as DRLs anyway.

This might be a dumb question, but why not just remove the bulb? At least then you wouldn't get that yellow reflection.

Take your car to the dealer they can turn them off permenatly through the techstream at no cost to you took 2 minutes to do and they also changed my alarm sound and stuff and a/c around to better suit my elevation. IF they cannot turn them off they will have to order a new ecm for your car wich again will be no cost to you and toyota is more than happy to do it just tell them to turn them off there is a TSB out for them:sigh:

The body ecu for the car has many customizable features which is a free service!!! Just roll through and request what you want. A recent TSB came out saying that toyota will replace your Body ecu so that the DRL function can be turned off at customer request and switched back on upon request. Any Toyota dealer can preform scion warranty work. |
Napa relay part # AR6034. Replace relay with this one. No drl, no trips to dealer. Not free but works.
