well something must have happen last night because the scion manager called me today and told me they were taking off all the mark ups and selling at msrp. And he gave me the option to order one the way I want and I'll pay msrp on that one. I'll have to wait 60 days for it to arrive but I think it's well worth it at msrp and especially to get one exactly how I want it.

Same dealer? Excellent maybe this happened:

Jack Hollis => :slap: <= Dealer

I don't think this is going to be the norm. I used to work for a dealership and I remember plenty of times when the geniuses in the sales department would have "market adjustments" for the new model cars. Needless to say those were the slowest weeks of my life since they didn't sell one car because they pissed off everyone coming in the door. Eventually the inventory would beat out the demand and the prices came down. I have no idea why they think this ploy will pay out for them, and seems like a waste of money since they aren't making any sales and scaring away customers. I can understand marking up a really rare car like the LFA or something, but this car will be readily available in a few months. Its basically fishing for suckers season and I for one am waiting for the next year to get mine. Plus it'll give time for the "new model quirks" to pass through.

I hope you're right. I spoke to a couple of managers around miami and it seems like they're backing away from the mark ups. Mentioning that nearby dealers (~100 miles or so away) are selling the cars at msrp seemed to wake them up.

Keep fighting the good fight your marvelous bastards. No 86 shall be sold over market value!~

You're talking about the same L.A. where cars are viewed as toys and fashion accessories? Don't get your hopes up too high. It's the first market I would expect to have markups for most dealers, but like anywhere else there will be some selling at MSRP. The ones that see the whole picture and try to sell their dealership and not just a single car, just have to look.

They don't have to look far and we ship. It's MSRP with no added accessories or market value adjustments.

Florida is still the wild west when it comes to car buying.

Good for you! We need some straight-shooters out there...

This whole Scion dealer markup thing is really depressing. Pure pricing turned out to be a joke after all the questions about it for the past 6 months. I've gone to the website of every dealer described in these threads and they all list the FR-S on their site for MSRP. If they list it for MSRP and then sell it for something above that, Pure Pricing means nothing.

Scion clearly doesn't care as this isn't an isolated incident. Scion, you lose. Either uphold pure pricing or get rid of it. Having a rule you don't follow is just wrong.

Funny how everyone believed pure pricing was real until now. Sure there were some skeptics, but the overwhelming majority believed in it. Scion has proven us wrong, way to go.

this dealer in florida is still adhering to the pure pricing if and when they sell all their FR-S for that market value adjustment price. now, if they say they can knock off $1000 or $2000 if you buy it today, then its no longer pure priced.

the problem is that there are very-very few true Scion dealers anymore, where the scion staff is seperate from the toyota staff. i would say 99% of all toyota dealers have their toyota salespeople selling scions as long as they're certified to sell it. in the beginning it was always supposed to be one person from start to finish, not 3 or 4 different people during the buying process. the buying process was supposed to be the opposite of toyota and now its just like buying a toyota. the sales person goes to the mgr and back to you, if both parties agree on everything discussed...you see the finance person. or you see the internet mgr, agree on price then they hand you over to the finance person. very few dealers are still doing it the so-called Scion way.

I guess things have changed. I had been saying that Scion cars can't get marked up like that, though I'm not sure if it's in compliance with Toyota/Scion. Go here for Scion's "Pure Pricing" explanation:

http://www.scion.com/buy/pure_price/

Or read this:

Quote:

Pure Price means that the dealer price you see posted - in an ad, on the dealer's website, or on a menu display board in the dealership - is the price you will pay. This includes vehicles, accessories, and even finance and insurance products.
I guess that mark-ups still fall under the dealership's "no haggle" price, Scion's website mentions prices "in an ad." I suppose that you could just bring in the Scion website (which you can possibly pass as an ad) and insist that you're not paying any higher, in accordance with scion.com.

California Mark UPS on FR-S

So I happened to drive by a dealer who just got 2 FR-S's delivered pulled over and there it was Asphalt Gray with Paddle shifters. I said I will take it lets talk accessories. Went inside picked the Five Axis body Kit, 18 inch Five Axis wheels, and TRD Exhaust kit. The salesman says just to let you know we have an additional 5K mark up on this car! I said what my total with add ons should be 31,200 he says no its 36,200 with mark up. What happen to pure pricing? Manager comes out asks me whats wrong what can he do to sell me this car i say give it to me at the price it is listed at thats what. He refuses says its a hot car people will pay the mark up. I told him you go find the sucker who will pay that later! I told him i am a patient guy i waited this long i will wait until you cant sell as many as you like and remove your BS mark up or find a dealer who wants to sell cars. I wrote Toyota as soon as i got home. I was one un-happy Toyota fan.

What dealer was this?

Toyota85 05-28-2012 10:09 PM

Norwalk Toyota in Southern CA told me I was lucky they were only asking 5K mark up they told me what you Florida guys were being hit with. In other words he was going to lube me first unlike in Florida where i guess i would get it dry!

Toyota85 05-28-2012 10:14 PM

Hey Symbiont, it was Norwalk Toyota they got 2 in today. I checked Tustin and Irvine areas no one had one in stock and no one in Irvine and Tustin area would give a price i guess they are planning mark ups as well.
