@trevorovert it didn't work for me. Maybe I need that nylon washer. It really sounds like it's coming from somewhere in my engine bay. I'll have to investigate.

Remove the bolt completely. see if it solves it.

Finally got the nylon washer put on yesterday and made the bolt a bit loose and I gotta say it's a lot quieter than before! :thanks:

I can still the hear/feel the click during clutch engagement, but it's very subtle. I can barely notice it now!

I've just realized that the sound only happens when the car is on, just sitting still or rolling in neutral. I don't know enough about cars to know what would click in the clutch/tranny assembly only when the car is on.

so it doesn't happen at all when the car is off? that doesn't really make that much sense to me either.

Nope! I adjusted the bolt when the car was off, and pressed the clutch, no popping and couldn't feel it through the pedal. I then turned the car on, bam it makes the popping and I can feel it in the pedal when it clicks. Maybe it has something to do with the driveshaft? I really have no idea.

I can hear it clearly in the cabin but I think it's coming from the engine bay. I haven't had a chance to pinpoint it. I'll have to do it this upcoming weekend. Maybe I have something different here.

Have you tried taking it to the dealership? I know @trevorovert and I have taken the car to the dealership without any results, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Also, could you record a short clip of the problem you are having?

I'd rather not have the dealership touch my car, especially when it comes to minor annoyances. I'll take a video this weekend. If I find that it could be something detrimental then I'll take it in to the dealership. Clutch feel and operation has been fine so far.

That's understandable and I respect that.

However, here's my scenario:

The reason I took the initiative to take it to the dealership, before this thread got posted, was because every time I heard the clicking noise, it made me think, "why am I stuck with this noise on a brand new car? Was it worth spending this much money on a brand new car that has problems?” So one day, I took my car to my local dealership to have it looked at. Once inspected, they said Toyota wanted them to replace the clutch, clutch plate, and the flywheel. Well I thought, “Sweet, a brand new clutch, I don’t mind that; and the click will finally go away!”

3 days later of enjoying a free rental car (a 2013 4-cyl Camry - I loved it, it was so quiet), I picked up my car and the technician told me that the clicking noise is gone. I was very excited… And guess what? As I was driving home, I heard the exact clicking noise. Yes, at first I was very pissed, but I decided to wait it out for a fix in the future. Then this post by @trevorovert caught my eye and a month has passed by since. After additional troubleshooting and spending hours playing with the clutch pedal assembly, I finally gave up and decided to live with the noise.

Then trevorovert found a fix (thanks a million!), and it actually made the noise go away. I mean, yeah I drove my car with the clicking noise for about 5k miles and learned to ignore it, but now that it's gone, I’m really enjoying my car a lot more and passengers in my car don’t ask me about the clicking noise anymore!

My service advisor has been really good to me whenever I took my car in, so I trust my car with them. After all, if they mess something up, they are responsible. So far my car has been to the dealership about 5 times with no damages on my car. (I always make sure that they don't wash my car).


So long story short: why not take it to your dealership to have it looked at? If this solution didn’t work for you, then it might be something that is more serious than what trevorovert and I experienced. And if the dealership messes up your car, then they should be the ones responsible to have it fixed; just make sure your car is clean before going in.

any idea what the build date on your car is? I'm wondering if it may be isolated to that? I can't find any consistency on why this happens. the cause of it seems absurd
