This is usually wishful thinking... Corvettes do not like letting Miatas by. Consequently, all the miatas learn how to divebomb and late brake very quickly...

I understand that, but this sport is unfortunately full of people with egos. The more faster/expensive the car, the larger the ego and usually (not always) the less skill. The flag workers don't always catch bad behavior. Just look at the last time I was in a point by group in my Porsche. The guy was NINE seconds off my usual pace, but just refused to let me by:

and you guys are telling me that you are doing point by while turning then?? If not it comes to the same thing.. to the exception that we do not wait for the driver in front of us to tell us when to pass him on the straight.
Yes, depending on the experience level, the advanced point by groups usually allow point by anyway, including corners.

I don't run in open passing groups in my BRZ because it's so damn slow that I find I'm driving my mirrors the entire time and getting passed constantly. You can get lapped TWICE in once session running a relatively stock BRZ in the open group. With the slow pace of the BRZ, people not pointing by is rarely an issue, so I'm content with point by in the BRZ

In my boxster spyder, I've found that running on open group solved ALL of my problems with guys in high HP cars not pointing by. I haven't had any frustration at the track since. It's probably because people in those groups really get it and don't have problems letting people by, or passing through corners and in braking zones solve it otherwise.

@orthojoe: I'm assuming you run with NCRC; what other organizations are there up in NorCal? I'm also assuming you run in the fastest or 2nd fastest session of the day typically?

I run with NCRC, TMR (trackmasters), and HOD (hooked on driving)

With the BRZ I am in the '2nd fastest' run groups. I run in pointby with NCRC, C group with HOD (advanced point by), and mixed group with TMR (mix of open and point by)

With the boxster spyder I am in the 'fastest' run groups: I run in open group with NCRC, D group with HOD (open passing), and advanced with TMR (open passing)

Aim Solo DL is the datalogger. I use trackvision to overlay the data onto gopro video.

Yeah that has not been my experience.

It just highlights the difference between the cars more than anything.

The way i feel also!! When i am at my home track and chief instructor in his evo x 400whp and race M3 laps in 57-58 seconds, i don't mind running with them in my fr-s doing 1:00-1:01.

But when going to a track like tremblant, i am driving my mirror all the time with those gt-3's/C63 Black series and other.

So jealous that your local track is Circuit Mont Tremblant...

If so it is considered an "accident" (If there is damage) which has to be handled by the two drivers?

Tried to do some research, didn't find much on this.

Thanks.

idk what track you guys were out on where that is even... thinkable. there are certain procedures u have to follow on a non competitive track. as in, they shouldnt have been that close to the person they bumped unless being motioned past:confused0068:

I'm headed to Virginia International Raceway on Monday, first time racing there, and it'll be my first time running in the Advanced group. Passing is allowed anywhere as well for Advanced, whereas every time I've been to an HDPE before it was just on designated straights.

Might be a bit of an adjustment for me! :confused0068:
