That sounds the same and perhaps because i'm aware of it and looking for it now it seems worse?

5th is the direct drive 1:1 ratio so perhaps that has something to do with it?

The problem with this area of the forum is everyone turns into a car hypochondriac. A problem is described and you think you may have felt it once before and you're all like "omg I have that!"

Doubtful.

True!
The problem with mine is real and I searched the forum for similar problems to see how common it might be.
Now it's there I avoid it but also check to see if it's still there and if it's got worse.

Not discounting your issue at all. I'm talking about those who come here and read these threads and then one morning have a grind going into second while the tranny is cold and think "zomg I need a new transmission!"

Just gotta learn how to work around these issues. Don't beat on it while it's cold and make sure to rev match downshifts.

Yes I knew what you meant, just clarifying it for others.

I agree but we shouldn't need to rev match anywhere these days, especially in the high gears. I do it in the lower gears for fun and to keep those hard working triple synchros like new.

Synchros are there so you don't HAVE to rev match, but it is a good idea to keep them healthy.

It happens for me when i downshift 6>5 above 3500 rpm every time now. When i took it in they said there's no issue despite the metal shavings on the drain plug and my sparkly oil.

sounds like a gear cut issue on the synchros. Hence the large amount of metal shavings in some of your oil. The dust is normal, and is the coating on the synchros and gears fresh from the factory. That is why the fluid should be changed at 1000 miles after the break in period. Oil, trans, diff. All changed at 1k. =)

I have that same problem with the 6-5

Edit: I'm waiting for it to break, so I can rebuild stronger or replace with diff unit. At this point, I'm so heavily modified that warranty work requests would be comical at best.
