The problem is that I sort of want to have a hybrid setup by using the same rates for both track and autox. I just don't think it will work, idk. I think I'm a little frustrated right now lol.

What's the consensus on stiffer rear? It seems like we still don't have a solid answer.

There is no one answer...more than one way to skin a cat. With 500/650 you are taking a route that requires a driver that has a lot of commitment and confidence with an oversteering car. And maybe no rear swaybar.

It's not the way we would go about things for an auto-x or track car to be honest unless it was a very focused car. Going without a rear sway and going heavy on the rear rate can work well but you'll give up some street comfort.

Yeah dude I think the consensus is you want even or less stiff rear spring on this car. If you are committed to it you could like mentioned dump the rear bar add a stiffer front bar, but you are going to have to feel your way through it.

We run stiffer rear springs, as do quite a few local drivers...

Anyone who's gotten a ride in our car can vouch that the car is not the crazy oversteery machine that everyone makes it out to be.

You are a totally different case, tuned prepared for specific tracks but before I really put my foot in my mouth I dont think ayau said what events he is running.

We run the same setup for every track... except for WSIR where we lower the damper settings (to a more rotation friendly setup) because I wussed out after nearly understeering off track at 120+ mph.

Yes, 10k/12k understeers at speed.... :p

You can get away with that with the right track setup. The more grip you have the more its usable Just have to see what he does. Out by me running a 650/750lb springs would be horrible in autox and with how roads are it would make daily driving punishment even with amazing damping.

Id love to see you autox your setup just once ;)

I'll be swapping the springs on our KW Clubsports this evening. Had another suspension going on but had some fitment issues, so we will be taking advantage of the downtime to experiment more. :)

I bet after you finally replace some of the stock bushings, you'll have a bit more oversteer.

Do it! Can't believe you haven't already...it's a big difference.

Has anyone checked the rear bumpsteer (and want to share). I might switch rear springs soon, so maybe I'll give it a go.

BTW what were your alignment settings?

I would too :D

Just difficult to justify to the boss how him paying $40 for me to get 4 runs is beneficial to the company versus paying $100-150 for 2 hours of track time...

I hear you man, it totally blows. The only way it would be good is if you set up an event like you did for track days for autox.

Haven't had a chance to get an alignment yet. I'm at about a 1" drop all around and the front top plates are set for max camber with crash bolts.

I'd guess that the front has about -3.4 of camber and the rear has -2.3. The toes are probably messed from dropping it about an inch.

xwd 05-07-2013 04:21 PM

Before you even look at anything like spring rates, get a proper alignment... it could be way way off for all you know. Was your car aligned before with just the crash bolts?

I would look at disconnecting the rear swaybar if you really want to run rates that high.
