Hatchback is just far more functional in my view. You can put things in without having to scrape along that top bar that is left when the seats are folded down on a sedan.

I'm also looking for a fun but practical car that will last a long time. A hatch is important to me. Sedans are everywhere, a hatch would help to distinguish this car. I don't see what advantage sedans have, unless you're in the mafia.

The other thing that concerns me about this car is engine size. I understand they can tune an engine to rev really high and up the power, but how much torque can you get out of 2.0L? That rumor about a turbocharged model sounds great, but why drop the engine size to 1.6L. Why not turbocharge the 2.0L?

Aside from these two issues, this car looks amazing. The lightweight, RWD, 6 speed manual, sports coupe idea is a great one. Just not sure on a couple of these decisions.

cobalt sstc only mods are tune/e85/drop in air filter 12.9@112mph at 4114 adjusted altitude. And its only a 2.0l. multiple others pushing 500whp so unless you're expecting a drag/dyno queen with 600+whp you should be good

That Cobalt is a 2.0L turbo. I said they should release a 2.0L turbo version of the FT86.

How can they say it's inspired by the AE86 and not have a hatch!! The GTV's were hatchbacks.

That seems to be the trend these days whether it's remake of old cars, movies, music, clothing trends, iconic figures etc. People trying to bring back or associate ideas from the 80's and 90's yet forget the important details. :bs:

Will the whining over the trunk/hatch debate ever stop? If maximum storage space in a vehicle is that important to you... get a larger car. Remove the back seats. If that isn't enough, get a trailer hitch and a track trailer. The FRS is a tiny car, fitting four tires in the trunk of a car its size is already asking a LOT. Be happy with the car, or shop for a larger one one.

Eventually, I'll come to terms but in the time being, I'll still bummed that they have deviated from the originator. The same argument can be made with the Supra fans that if they announced the return of the Supra and made it a trunk or made it a hybrid.

Truth of the matter and it's all about the details so to say it's "inspired" yet forget the fundamentals enables room for a discussion. :sigh:

I don't really give a shit about the trunk space since I have a truck and can rent a trailer. It will be gutted when it's ready to go to the track.

well, either way, since it's almost confirmed that it's a trunk, then I can't really plead for a hatch. I have made due with the Prelude's trunk so far, so I I guess I can make due with a trunk in my next car. The fact still stands tho, if this was a hatch, it would make the fact that this is a two door car more livable. Now I may have to go look at 4 door cars again, and the only RWD 4 door cars with manuals are offered by BMW. I won't make any decisions until this car comes out though.

To be honest I really don't care either way. I actually welcome the idea of the trunk considering I haven't had a trunk in a vehicle in quite some time. I have no special attachment to my two hatchbacks. As long as I can fit a decent sized duffel bag back there I don't care how it opens up. Hell, as long as I can fit a duffel bag in the passenger's seat I'm happy. Back seats and a trunk are all excessive for my needs. :happy0180:

The AE86 didn't have a boxer engine either though. I don't take automakers serious when they say "this car will be a spiritual successor" to most cars anyways.

Really!! I thought it did!! ;) :bellyroll:

I guess I was expecting too much and set the bar high with this car. I'm still holding off until the official release and have a plan B; MV Agusta F3 or Ducati 1199 Paginale.

I find it a bit disturbing that that bike will have the same power as the FT86 but at 1/6th the weight.

Back on topic...oh wait nevermind it's no use because this one has morphed into another trunk/hatch topic.

Carry on
