thanks for the response; i dont know the history of the nomenclature like ya'll do.

so, what name would appropriately acknowledge the AE86, but also give the FT-86 a unique identity of its own (besides FT-86)?

just trying to think outside the box here.

In the U.S., anything using the traditional sports line that AE86 is associated with.

Sprinter Trueno
Levin, really since they've never been used here.

I still like Sprinter.

Or GT-V!

or Sprinter GT-V!

GT-V could definitely work!

I vote other.

Toyota has had a n FR coupe with 800cc flat4 engine named TOYOTA SPORT 800.
Mr. Tada, chief engineer of FT-86 project team told that.

TOYOTA SPORT 2000
That's it.

I was just thinking about this yesterday(I voted for Sprinter)....What if toyota wants to re-image the Corolla name and be one of the first to bring back COMPACT RWD cars. Nobody knows if they plan to produce a sedan version of the FT. What would it compete with? The civic, mazda 3, GTI, cobalt, A3, focus, tC? Toyota would gain a big chunk of the compact market back and the only other small rwd 4-seater I can think of is the BMW 1-series. I know it's blasphemy to say what I'm saying but I hope toyota brings the Corolla name plate back from the dead. I'm retarded but I guess it's okay to dream. Right?

It would do wonders for the corrolla name but I think the corrolla name would take street cred away from the FT-86 instantaneously.

I like the FT86 name.

MTD 10-28-2009 01:36 PM

Sprinter is horrible IMO. Sure it does have some significance, it just sounds like some Transformer would be named.

Levin/Trueno are ok, but I still just like an alphanumeric name like FT86 or 2000GT or a cool sounding Japanese name like Ronin, Bushido, Katana. Something like that.

Its a brand new car, so use a new name.

:bellyroll: as a car name i guarantee you those only sound cool in english. they're definitely NOT gonna call this car the toyota ronin in japan. sounds like a college drop out!!

Arcangel 10-28-2009 03:17 PM

I think out of all the ideas either keep it the FT-86 or go GT-V

But don't forget in Japan, we have random weird English car names. Like Daihatsu Move, Honda That's, Honda Vamos, Subaru Rex (even though it's Kei car), and lists just goes on. :bellyroll:

Heres another idea. since FT stand for future toyota if they dont wanna use FT how about Toyota GT86 for base for high power version maybe GT86 TRD or GT86-R

It's possible it could be marketed in the US as a Scion, but I doubt it. I'll be surprised if it isn't sold as a Celica. And the chassis code should be TA86.
