More fission news:

I watched that a couple of days ago. I don't understand how Finland has solved the problem. I thought burial had been happening for a while.
The only thing I see is that Finland has actually done it properly.

I think it has only been considered.

Finland has a plan to actually do something.

The US is still pouring it all on the driveway with no other contingency.

If you noticed, the global distribution of suitable bedrock gives the US a skip.
Wonder if we can throw it over Finland's back yard fence?

Cool experimental fusion project that should be online in the next 5-10 years.

Quoting Doc Ock from Spider-Man?

"The Power of the Sun...in the palm of my hand!" I'll verify this on my pinball machine, it's one of the many movie quotes.

If and when net positive energy is sustained by fusion, I'm curious what the dangers are in comparison to a controlled nuclear fission reaction.

The problem with fission is that all the (unstable) fuel to power the generator for 30 years is in the reaction chamber. You have to actively control the rate of reaction or it will get away from you and cause your control mechanism to break down further, and eventually you have a meltdown (literally stuff just melts which makes it even hotter).

Fusion generators you keep adding (stable) fuel as your reaction continues. So you just have to kill the fuel supply.

Clever, but I didn't think you could use Helium as nuclear fuel. ;)

I was thinking of the sun. OK, cut the deuterium and tritium.
