@churchx, good point.

I burned through the Primacies on the stock wheels in my first season at the track before I upgraded wheels / tires.

Depends on your definition of worse and what you want out of the car.

Moving to wider, stickier tires will mean you lose the ability to get the car sliding as easily as it does out of the box. If you don't want that, then you have arguably made the car "better".

If you plan on tracking the car at all, then stickier is probably better.

Personally, I find the car's stability and traction controls to be adjusted well for the 2017 cars. The new calibrations allow a bit more slip but when they activate they do so effectively. In the rain, on loose surfaces like gravel and definitely snow, leave all the electronic helpers on.
But what you retain on dry roads with the Primacys is the light, nimble feeling of the chassis and it really is a spectacularly well-designed chassis, especially with the electronics turned off. You'll get more grip and learn less about car control with what people often call the "best" tires. And, btw, I have dedicated track wheels and tires.
I encourage you to learn your car's chassis the way it came set-up by some extremely talented engineers. And have as much fun as Chris Harris in the link below!
