I sent back the mid pipe. Didn't send the muffler |
Well, Bubba is about of ideas.
His next suggestion is to bang on the muffler and associated pipes with a rubber mallet while it is doing it's cool down sounds. See it will help identify what is causing the sound. humfrz |

That's what all the mechanic does when they check lol |

So far, I've prevented him from taking his torch and cutting that plate in half, that tacks the muffler barrels together. ..... humfrz |

I wonder if there are any baffles on the inside of the mufflers ... ?? humfrz PS - Bubba has another idea ....... when the exhaust is really hot ...... hit it with cold water ...... maybe whatever is making the noise will ...... SNAP ......:D |

XD lol Dat PS NOTE!! Mmh no I doubt popping that loudly is its nature since I contact another member of the forum who has this same exhaust saying he have never had this on his mxp sp I also sent him a picture of the exhaust link under the car and it all seem morning. If it was a leak it would of been easy to spot but nuuuuu this one is giving me the business 😥 |
That sounds like more of a tick than a knock to me, similar to a hot exhaust cooling off kind of tick. Maybe the extra clamps on this specific system has something to do with it.

Yeah I really don't like the clamps lol it doesn't seem very securing compare to the ones used with nuts and bolt and gasket |

That's the problem there seem to be no issue but the noise is there lol if you're here in socal I'd let you take a shot at this egg |
I know this is pure necromancy, but i'm experiencing the exact same problem as OP was. MXP SP rest of the exhaust is stock, after the exhaust heats up, at idle/standing still, there is a very loud intermittent pop/clang noise coming from the exhaust area that subsides as it cools down. The clanging has its own rhythm independent from the engine rpm or other wise. No issues with clearances or contact points. It's harder to isolate it because by the time I get it up in the air the exhaust has cooled down and the noise disappears or becomes hidden by the regular exhaust pinging.
Any one else experience this? @CSG Mike have you guys ever encountered this with any of your MXP products? |
