it gets power from 194 socket. |
Any on found a good source of power in the back, so this light can function as an "on when the car is running" light? That way it would be like a rear DRL, and an additional running light at night.

what's difference between mine and T-Tabing OEM wires that forum members do? since bringing power from same source. if you can provide me more detailed info, it would be helpful since i am not that great with electrical stuff |
I used the kahtec module which was super simple. after I pulled the lower light unit out of the car, i just attached the kahtec unit to the light (on top near where the 10mm bolt is) with some 3m double sided tape. the blue wire from the kahtec went to the + side of the new light bulb. i fused the black wire and the - wire of the bulb with a 12" piece of black wire and grounded it to the car (right above the muffler is an easy to see, easy to access 10mm nut sticking out. i just found a 10mm bolt and screwed it on to the wire to ground it. then on the red wire from the kahtec, i ran that through the grommet in the trunk on the left side (where all the other wires go, by the spare tire tools), ran that up to the green wire on the 3rd brake light and tapped it in. i spent maybe 2 hours total between finding wire, a light socket, removing the unit, dremeling out the hole and notches, disassembling the trunk, etc. i could probably do it over in about 45 minutes now that i know what to do.

I don't know if this was said yet. But I would recommend putting the vacuum on the middle hole. Then blowing forced air through the backup light holes. When I blew air into the new hole. It blew the dust in between the red and the clear lens and now its stuck there. To fix my mess, I blew forced air through the side holes and got most of it out. Hope this helps. Thanks for the great DIY.

Installed mine over the weekend. Got lazy and bought the phasetek kit. Very happy with it though

This maybe a dumb question, but when you remove the reflector do you have to undo the bumper and diffuser and take it out the bottom or can it be remove via the opening in the bumper that the reflector is in? I haven't seen this mentioned any of the searches I did.

there are two 10mm bolts, 2 push pins, and a clip holding the housing in. |
If I understand this correctly I get in under the car to remove the pins and undo the bolts and clip. Take out the backup lights and then it will come straight out the opening in the bumper?

Is there a way to tap into the BRZ fog lights to do this? I know it can't be done with the FRS but the BRZ limited has fogs.

DIY Rear foglight
JOSI, what light are you plugging that 194 base in place of? I'm interested if less than what other kits are going for

JOSI, I've had this kit installed for about a year now with no problems. Its still running the same amperage fuse for the rear taillight circuit and has never had a problem holding up. If using the correct gauge wire, it will not give much load to the existing circuit. Plus its a quality made harness made in the USA

FYI to people wanting to do this mod, the grey plastic housing is SUPER brittle. Be extremely careful with the tabs (as the OP mentioned), when tightening the bolts down, and drilling the hole. The tabs on mine broke off (and I thought I was being careful), my drill bit caught and torqued the plastic (breaking off a large piece), and the tab that the bolt goes against snapped when I was tightening everything back up. I managed to fix the housing using some special adhesive that melts the plastic and bonds it back together...but it would have been nice to not break it in the first place. Let this be a warning and learn from my mistakes!

Having a hard time finding light sockets for a 1157 or 3157 bulb that's isn't from an old vehicle. Those sockets are huuuuge and bulky. Is that what everyone is using? If not any suggestions?!?

http://img2.jcwstatics.com/is/image/..._is?$JCW_MAIN$ just a little rubbery/plastic socket I found at an autoparts store. that probably doesn't help you much but at least it's an alternative |
I just purchased this kit, used a 15% off coupon and it was like $39 including shipping. Comes with everything needed, even the drill bit and LED light. Hard to beat that price even getting the parts myself.

So how about wiring it to the brake lights?

So anyone that took off their light, how the hell did you do it with the stock muffler in place? I tried today but after 10 minutes of my hand squeezed up to removed the bolts, I gave up, ha. I figured it's easier just to drop the muffler to access everything. Is there a secret way I'm missing here? Nobody ever mentioned removing their muffler so I feel like there's something I'm missing, haha.

So... after 3 months... getting the Traction Control and ABS light error
So I wired up the JDM rear brake/fog kit about 3 months ago. No problems since the install... until this week. I've been getting a traction control / ABS light on my dash.
After some fiddling, it looks like when I turn on the headlights (and on goes the rear light mod), the Traction Control / ABS light turns on. I clipped the rear light mod wires to sever it from the circuit and the TC / ABS lights go off. Are some light control modules just more finicky? I'm going to try to rewire NOT off the parking brake circuit but off the license plate power and see how it goes. |

I have the Diode Dynamics Brake light as turn light module as well ad I just spliced into the module itself for the 12v signals. I believe red was for the running lights and yellow was for the brake lights if I remember correctly. Oh, and I snapped my tab on the light assembly lol. That thing is a SOB to remove, I thought I was being gentle until it just snapped lol. But with the bolts and everything in it, it still doesn't move so I'm not really worried about it.

I just installed the ijdmtoy kit and it was a pain in the @$%. the socket is just not a good fit and the instructions were horrid. I referred to the instructions here for the most part. I didn't remove the fog light. I just drilled a hole laying under the car, took my time because as previously stated, the plastic is very brittle. I am happy with the results though. the provided led light provides the perfect amount of light in my opinion. I tapped all three wires directly to the three drivers side taillight wires.
