Engine swap recommendation: 3JZ

Why go 1JZ or 2JZ when you can go 3JZ....right? right? and no one else has one, you'd be the first!

Brand new they cost between 90,000 to 124,000 in the local currency. 20 to 25% to be more accurate.

1$ = 3.68 in local currency.

What am I missing here?

I see no reference to Edmunds, Nissans, or 1st year depreciation in your response. Maybe your quoting figures for a specific Nissan, and maybe to Dubai, but that wouldn't apply to Nissans in general, or to the US or world markets. And I see no documentation from Edmunds of any kind.

My point is 1) Nissans (as a brand) do NOT lose 46% (or even 25%) first year depreciation, and 2) I'm sure Edmunds never said that.

1. Toyota
2. Nissan

German cars, British cars, American cars depreciate at a much faster pace. French cars have the highest depreciation.

It's really the same up here. American cars don't hood their value as well as a lot of imports(excluding trucks)

I just now even saw this.

Yes I found it on Edmunds.com. I was blowing through articles at work trying to find resale values on corvettes / brands and stumbled across that. I admit fully that I cannot find the article again, I even checked my browser history. Maybe it applied to a certain vehicle and I missed that?

I think it would make sense though. Locally you can buy a Slightly used Nissan for about half of what a current model year would be.

Did a quick test to confirm that certain nissian's resale value are extreme low. Did a test of selling a 2015 nissian altima with 15k on the obo in perfect condition. Kbb priced it to only $14,000 compared to a brand new base model off the lot costing $22,000. But its probably due to a new model 2016 just being released. Did another test looking a nissian sentra it held value much better only dropping about $2,000

I'm giving you the local prices. That link I posted is a popular used car website, so you can calculate the depreciation if u like. Brand new manual gt starts at 90,000 aed goes all the way to 124,000 aed for the full option auto. 1$ = 3.68 aed.

Backend wants to go first? No.... a completely balanced vehicle with wide tires and enough stability nannies that anyone could drive the car. If you turn everything off and don't know what you are doing they can get you in trouble, but.... If you want to drive a corvette civilized it is EASY. They can also get 28-30 MPG reliably if you just set the cruise and go.

I've driven things with more power (never owned anything over 250hp though until my modded brz) including a 370, g37, gtr, r34, mustang gt500, corvettes and at no point while driving those did I feel they were more FUN than in the BRZ. Did they have more power, speed... yes. Were they more fun to drive aside from in a straight line? not to me anyways, something very attractive to me having a 300+hp go kart. To each is own I guess but I don't know you don't feel as connected to the car with bigger GT type cars and heavy b*tches like the 370 that's just my opinion though.

How can a nissan lose 46% of its value in the first year?

I guess I liked having a 400 HP 400 lb ft go kart, lol. If you have driven an R34 (I have not) and I only got to ride in an R35 I am astounded you would say those are less fun than a BRZ, lol.

It can't. If that were the case, I would just buy 3 year old Versas and drive them until they needed their first oil change.

That's a perfect example. Retail on a new one with same options is 22,895.

Versa is the worst example of what you're saying. You can buy a new base model manual for 12,XXX and Nissan sometimes runs rebates. A new one would be better than a used one simply due to rebates and financing terms.

Even better wait a year and buy a nissan at half price, what an excellent deal lol.

Keep in mind my BRZ is modded and while the r34-gtr are fun as hell, I live in a place called Quebec, Canada and our roads are complete shit (pothole ridden, salt eaten, small rocks/sand etc) so there aren't a ton of places to let out something like a gtr to its full potential or to start throwing a big heavy(long and wide) monster sideways.

Given the proper conditions all the time then yes a GTR may be more fun, but in dealing with everyday life and geographical and infrastructure limitations, the brz (especially modded) is as fun if not more fun than most cars I listed in my last post (to me at least)

It may be the price too that influences my fun factor, when I drove my buddy's R34 (it was fun)but I always kept a bit of reserve driving the car seeing as crashing it would result in a hefty build and a lot of time and money searching for parts. I jumped a curb with my brz a week ago and it's in the shop atm and although it was unpleasant, I haven't really been down about it, had the car been a GTR or a brand new cayman or vette, I would probably still be sobbing uncontrollably. so that may have something to do with enjoyment factor, the fact that a mistake/accident will not cause me to have to remortgage my house for car repairs :)

Probably because people buy them and then realise oh fuck I bought an Altima, the worlds most uncomfortable pos car better sell it quick before it's worth 5 dollars

(I hate Altimas as you can probably tell)

To support your claim of 46% depreciation in one year, you show me a car that has lost 34% of its value in two years (we are in model year 2016)?

Most likely, this car was purchased for $20,000 and has only lost 25% of its purchase price over its two years.

Does nobody know how percentages work?

If you buy a car for $25,000, and within one year it is worth $13,500 then you have had 46% depreciation in a year.

If you buy a car for $20,000, and within one year it is worth $10,800 then you have had 46% depreciation in a year.

For big depreciation numbers, check out the more expensive vehicles. BMW 7 series is very good at depreciating, and I don't think that could drop 46% in a year.

Apparently they're still on 2015 Sentras currently since the 2016 gets a refresh and drops late December. So I showed you a one model year vehicle. Its just one example of many.

Yes I understand how percentages work. I may not be 46% but 37% seems pretty damn high and that's your best case scenario for that model atleast. Comparing that to the brz which only has a depreciation of 27% for one year.

When u buy a brand new brz(or any car) you lose about 5 to 10% just for driving it out of a showroom, then u add the yearly depreciation which is around 10 to 15% depending on make and demand. Then around 10 to 15% yearly. Well out here it's like that not sure over there how it works.

ZionsWrath 12-03-2015 12:18 AM

Yea I thought about holding off on my BRZ because I definitely believe in depreciation and buying used vehicles.

But then I realized I was following this cars concept for 2 years because nothing that actually existed fit what I wanted.

I looked at 370z, mustangs, genesis, miata, s2k

I weighed the depreciation in my decision and I guess quite literally made a "YOLO" decision. I didn't want to wait 2-3 years to get the car I wanted to save some $.

And 3 years later with the track time and mods I have, I am glad I made that decision.

billwot 12-03-2015 01:24 AM

OK, here's what Edmunds really says:

Average price actually paid new for 2014 Altima: $19420

http://www.edmunds.com/nissan/altima/2014/

Average dealer trade in value Dec 2015 $13191

Average retail value Dec 2015 $15733

http://www.edmunds.com/nissan/altima...sal-value/tmv/

(Assumptions: 2.5l CV, S trim, clean, 20K miles)

So the 2 year depreciation from new retail to used wholesale is $6229, or 32%

2 year depreciation from new retail to used retail is $3687, or just 19%.

Hell of a long way from "...46% per year".

all this is true. everyday use and city driving I prefer the FRS. Its fun in the dry and twice as fun in the rain. Its cheap to maintain. I can drive it everywhere and not care about resale value or rock chips / getting it dirty.

Has this been done? WRX FA20 swap?

Let the old dog lie down to sleep!!

On a related note, depreciation doesn't affect an owner if they never plan on selling it
