I live in NorCal, just like the cities, flat road. Driving half 60% freeway 40% local maybe even 70/30 what would you recommend? No high altitude, usually nice weather. Minimal rains, zero snow. I think I keep mine at like 30?

I believe 30 is a little low. It might feel squishy/sluggish when you try to turn quickly (like when dodging debris on the highway) not to mention lower miles per gallon, but as long as your tires are wearing evenly, it is really up to your preference, you should try out different pressures and see which ones you like. Here is some quick info, I didn't intend to go to a prius site, I just clicked on a picture on google to show the tire wear patterns based on pressure and it brought up that page. http://priuschat.com/threads/best-ti...r-prius.84879/
So pretty much street driving, no canyon runs, or track days? I would start out at 42 like me. I think the tire limit is 51psi so anything under that should be "safe" unless you have lots of potholes and crappy roads. Ride quality will get harsher as the pressure increases, especially at higher speeds or on rough roads, but I think between 40-45 is a good starting place.

I don't care how young someone is, if they are old enough to type, I can't comprehend them not getting that reference. It's like not knowing we went to the moon.

Ya there are potholes and a lot , I mean A LOT of bumpy crappy shitty roads. Atleast in NorCal in the Bay Area. Especially the freeway. How much MPG are you getting? I get an average of 290-300miles on a tank at around 30-35 psi

Target70 03-14-2015 06:09 AM

If you drive till your tank is on E you will still have about 2 gallons in the tank: so about 26mpg. I drive almost 100% city (smaller town), 6 months ago I was getting around 26mpg, then went to E85, and then back to 93 for winter, so for the last 3 months I have been getting about 23.5mpg. I need to update my oft and log a run to make sure everything is running right, because it seems low, or I could just be driving harder the more comfortable I get in the car.

Really? 2 gallons? I usually fill up when it lights up. I will try out the 40 psi tho. I seen people get 35mpg on this thing it's crazy

yep, check out how many gallons you pump next fill up. we have a 13.2 gallon tank, and I usually pump between 10 and 11 gallons on each fill up. Also I went on a 200 mile trip in December, all highway no interstate, at about 65mph, with 2 or 3 WOT two lane passes and ended up with 31mpg.

For people think stock tire suck, think again

PRIMACY HP Summer / Eco Tires by Michelin®. This tire delivers precise wet and dry handling and is original equipment on luxury touring vehicles like Lexus GS 430, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6.

I mean stock tire are good to drift on our car, but wut makes it preform so badly on our car? Judging from tha fact ppl love then on their WRX too....... Is it weight that makes all the difference? or their TCS/4WD just makes up for it.

dnieves 03-21-2015 11:55 AM

I think a big twin owners hate the stock Michelin tires because they are the premium tire option for the Prius and not many people on this forum seem to care for the Prius.

It is a bit sad that. The tyre wasn't made for the Prius. It doesn't really get that good reviews for fuel efficiency.

Besides, commuting in rush hour traffic I have managed to average 39mpg, which is not that far off what a Prius would do. The fuely average for the Prius isn't all that good IIRC, around 46mpg which most good small diesel cars will do these days.

Note: I am using UK Gallons for the mpg as I don't understand US gallons and can't be bothered to covert.

Also note: following the 39mpg trip I washed my petrol head out with a 21mpg run through the hills the next day.

Compared a budget tyre the Primacy holds the road very well. I'm sure you can buy stickier tyres but that doesn't mean the Primacy's are bad, they are far from it. They are also hard wearing and I believe they may come with a 30,000 mile warranty in some locales.

EAGLE5 03-22-2015 12:48 AM

Remember, UK gallons are larger than American gallons. Primacy stick great and ride nicely. Other tires stick better, but not all that many do.

gravitylover 04-07-2015 11:13 AM

As much as I dislike the stock rubber I am going to get an extra set. The price is just too good to pass up (less for all 4 than one new one) and I need two tires right away. Hopefully having a couple of spares will mean I get through the year for a $150 investment and then can really do "the right thing" next spring.

Tell me I'm not about to make a horrible decision...

Kronos 04-07-2015 01:52 PM

Where are you getting the stock tires from?

So $150 for how many tires?

gravitylover 04-07-2015 07:33 PM

I went and did it even though I know I don't really like them but at that price how can you say no when you do 32,000+ miles a year. Ehh, at least I don't have to buy tires again this year. Hopefully next winter starts late and I can hold off on putting those tires back on so they last the whole season.

I got them (all 4) from a member here who lives near me that no longer has his car.

They didn't pick these tires because it was all they had to chose from.
Nothing happened on this car by chance it was all by choice.

I think this my new goto response for the people who tell me the car needs a turbo.

Not when buying "almost new" from people here in the classified section or on craigslist from people who can't get rid of them quick enough.
