Why would it be that much higher? The BRZ Premium is only about a grand more.

Can you ask what the buyback price is? And any more pics of how bad it is? 20k is a lot for a rear ending.

_F-R-S_ 01-24-2013 08:18 PM

Well after all day on phone. The insurance company finally figured out all the parts on the car and the price for each. Noe they are going threw a thrd party to figure out the value of the car since their isnt any sources for such a new car.. Meaning not any used frs"s. take 24/48 hours to figure out. On top of that iag asked to buy the car back to set it up as a racecar. Well see what happens in the next few days. But i went to look at it tody and unfortuantly the other car had a tow hook on the back which caused alot of damage.

kanundrum 01-24-2013 08:45 PM

as least your car will be reincarnated into racecar!

BoostinIX 01-25-2013 07:19 AM

Haha I had a couple other shops asking about it :P Good to see someone's going to get it!

Grishbok 01-25-2013 08:38 AM

you are extremely fortunate in this. Putting the aftermarket suspension on the car and not informing the insurance company can make you liable for the damages. You decreased the height of the impact zones which are set to be at relatively the same height on all cars, so when you collide, it hits specific zones. By lowering the car, you compromised the integrity and safety of the vehicle, meaning the safety inspection was no longer valid. This means the car was illegal, and should not have been driven, and if the insurance company wanted to, or knew, they could drop you as a policy holder leaving you with the bill. Im only saying this so you know what could happen and can take that into account on the next car. Im very sorry for the loss of the car.

That said, im glad every one is ok in this. But please be extremely careful when modifying your car. We found out the hard way.

Know what my friend calls tow hitches? "Sports car radiator removers."

I will do the same to the next car as i did to this one.

_F-R-S_ 01-25-2013 09:33 AM

I mean, no offense, but your car likely wouldn't have been totaled if was higher. Having an at fault claim like this won't be good for your insurance; you would risk it happening again?

My insurance was 88 a month before i cant see it going up 100%. That being said i dont expect to crash the next one. This crash basically was the perfect storm. New tires, outta gas, cutoff, all happen so perfect.

Wow, you had cheaper insurance than I did. $88 is cheap as shit. I paid $114/month before I added my WRX to my policy (now $129/month).

Honestly dude, it's quite possible your insurance will jump up exponentially if you plan to buy the same car.. Same car with the same risks. When you add on the fact that you totaled a 7 month old RWD sportscar and are fully at fault, insurance companies will try to make it their while insuring you.. Once you increase your risk factors, they'll calculate the higher probably that you will crash again.. You're now less profitable to insure.

How do new tires and having no gas make it easier to crash? I kinda think that's reversed... old worn tires and a full tank of gas (more weight).

Not sure what gas factors in as other than driving stressed/looking for a gas station. New tires, however, are a different story; often they have release agents and other stuff from the factory that needs to wear down before the tire becomes as grippy as it actually is. Before these agents wear down the tire can be very slick.

kanundrum 01-25-2013 12:36 PM

No gas = less traction due to lack of weight?

_F-R-S_ 01-25-2013 01:07 PM

New summer tires have a sillicone over top of them that usually wears off in 60 miles or somthing. The people had ran outta gas. And i doubt they will jump to over 130$.

Gixxersixxerman 01-25-2013 01:17 PM

My insurance once jumped 52$ for a 15mph over 7 years ago.. The biggest factor here wasn't tires or anything like that.. It was speed.. You claim on the first page no one would let you merge.. Yet later said you was doing 70.. To me there seems no reason to be doing 70, and if I read and understood right, 70 on the shoulder where the people were.. Lowering your car looks cool, but you just seen what can happen.. And your here saying your going to do the exact same thing.. If you was indeed doing about 40 when you hit.. What are bumper made for now.. Still 25 or 30 mph now?? You car was the stock height chances are you replacing some crush mounts and bumper .. Bumper cover and a few more things..

Just gunna state that i am one of the safest drivers on the road. And i log 10 to 11 hours a day of driving. This i getting off topic with finger pointing. So well end it there

SubaSteve 01-25-2013 09:04 PM

I absolutely hate people who leave towing accessories on their vehicle year round. I know you've only towed something once so put that crap in the back of the car. Thats like having a giant spear off the back of the truck preventing the bumper from doing its job.

_F-R-S_ 01-28-2013 12:42 PM

Well looks like after the settlement i will be getting back 25k

Sargy 01-28-2013 12:53 PM

so you will have a check with 25k on it?

I can agree with this...I think I have Logged between 70-100k Miles of driving in just 3 years.

norsamerican 01-28-2013 12:58 PM

did you have GAP insurance (to pay the difference if the insurance stated the car was worth less that what you owed?)
