The "blinking brake light" you are thinking of on other race cars is a byproduct of high-framerate camera equipment. Most brake lights on non-F1 race cars these days are LED, and LEDs flicker imperceptibly to the human eye (due to pulse modulation in automotive applications), but when filmed on camera, they appear to be blinking.

The "blinking brake lights" trend that you see on beater civics and other "super pro tunerz" is a byproduct of general ignorance. No offense to you or your friends meant at all.

Still, rear fog lights in US - NO NO :) Unless you want to provoke a traffic jam.

Pair with stop lights - seems good to me. IMHO.

I'd like to see someone wire up an LED array that ties into the brake lights with a blinker module (ala http://www.kahtec.com/smart_stop.htm)

I may order the parts and do this in a couple weekends.

Good idea. But need to make the light blink faster than 3Hz. No biggie, how hard can it be :-)

I need to get around to doing this...

I wonder if a 7440 would be too hot for the housing. Of course a crazy bright LED would be barely any heat at all...

I think the housings are designed for a 921 bulb based on the size. A 7440 puts out a lot more light, so I'd assume you'll melt your housing with that.

It's not a good idea to wire up the rear fog light to be on 24/7. It can be distracting to other drivers on the road. I'm sure you have all been behind a Euro car on a clear night where the driver has his rear fog on and has no idea.

Just run a wire up into your cabin and put it on a switch. You have plenty of room for extra switches.

Absolutely. I hate being stuck behind a euro car with the rear fog light on on a clear day. :P My plan is to make it a rain light. I'm going to put it together with a 921 first, but I'll probably go with a bright LED later when I convert the rest of the exterior bulbs.

I drilled out the socket and stuck an 1157 socket in there. A 7440 socket is about the same size. I get crazy bright dual Red LED brightness plus the reflector. A 7440 prolly wouldn't be much better than the 1157 socket I did. Though, it's worth a try!
