When Triumph painted these cars at the factory, they coated the rockers with a thick black layer very similar to bedliner, back before bedliner was even a thing. That's a far cry from bedlining an entire car, but the stuff does have legitimate uses even on sports cars.

Looks like the 'minor' accident destroyed his paint, and instead of getting it repainted he just covered it in whatever that is. That's the cheapest I've ever seen a running FRS for sale.
