On both sides of me are retired seniors who don't like me much because I don't mow my lawn often enough for them and don't spend outrageous amounts of time doing yard work to keep the place pretty. They have both called the cops several times each due to my excessively loud exhaust at 5:45am when I leave for work. Last week I asked a local PO to sit at the end of the driveway when I started the car in the morning and he said it's too loud and I need to do something soon or they will pull my registration. I am at my wits end :( If I end up having to get rid of the car because of them I will be pissed and will make sure to make their lives hell.

I think next time the closer one starts his 69 GTO with dual glasspacks I will complain. I know it won't do any good though because the old boy network here is unbeatable but it will make me feel better.

If your car is 100% stock, and it's legally sold and plated in your area they can't do anything about it.

A cop that didn't even bother to check that the car is 100% stock and is threatening to pull plates/registration needs to give their head a shake too.

It would be a very quick conversation if you can prove with documentation that the car is totally stock.

This.... There isn't shit they can do if your car is stock. That's just insane they're bitching about a stock frs being too loud.

Heheh documentation. I think I'm just going to tell the cop to get on his knees and check it out for himself

See where I said "old boy network?" These guys have been here forever, one was born here and never left and his relative of some sort is a Captain. I told him (the PO) it was stock but that wasn't good enough apparently. They will be here tomorrow or Saturday morning with a sound meter of some sort and I'm supposed to wait for them before I leave for work, told them that wasn't going to work because I have to be there to open and I WON'T work around their schedule for something as bogus as this. I should hear from them this afternoon what their plan is.

You would think a 48 year old guy wouldn't have problems like this. I don't rev a car when it's cold ever. I start it and roll out of the driveway a few seconds after that and put it right into 2nd gear as I go by the neighbors house because it's downhill. I do stop at the corner because there's a stop sign so have to get off in 1st there but so does everybody else. Apparently the guy down the street that brings home the F350 diesel work truck is immune at 4:30am...

Be sure they properly follow the distance portion of the law... +3dB every time you halve distance. At 2" I'm sure it's too loud...

Tell the cop to F.O. There's no way a stock FR-S is too loud. And report to his supervisor that he is harassing you. I'm guessing you're fairly young and they are just fuking with you because they think they can get away with it.

gravitylover 01-01-2015 01:39 PM

^ 48 so not young and the supervisor (Captain) is family of one of the guys complaining.

I plan to tell him to stand by the side of the house closest to the driveway and again on the front steps of the one I have to drive past. No, there's no option to go a different way because it's a one way street.

If you treat the cop like a ****, be prepared for what you get in return...

Be prepared, show them the car is 100% stock and direct them to the local dealership or Toyota US to deal with it. If the government allows the car to be sold in your area, it's clearly legal. I would also get in touch with Toyota US to get yourself prepared for it.

If they try to pull your plates or registration and you have documentation, the case will get dropped before it sees a judge. If the cop tries again, they'll lose again. Their boss will get sick of it and put an end to it.

You could also proactively go to the police station to talk to the supervisor and show them the proof that the car is 100% stock. For all you know, that might end it right there.

Loud is a subjective quality. You shouldn't have to bend to that grouchy ladies wishes. Tell her to turn her hearing aid down, or move to a different neighborhood. I'm sure there is a law against abusing 911 calls.

wparsons 01-01-2015 06:31 PM

I highly doubt they're calling 911 to report this stuff...

While I wish I could say that was true, you'd be surprised what people actually do call 911 for.

On second thought I think you should kill them with kindness. Bake them a ton of cookies and brownies. How can you get mad at the nice guy across the street that always bakes you shit?

Or bake her some "loaded" brownies! That would cure her grouchiness. Don't know about her munchies though.:)

Not sure how to do it lol I see if I can figure it out, and thanks for the info! Anything will help momentarily.

I found the tune file I sent you, looks like the idle tables were already lowered to 1400. You've got everything I know of to minimize cold start noise without compromising anything. Sorry I can't be of more help!
