As a cancer survivor.. I can attest to the horrors of hospitals, doctors and meds.. But somehow.. You will get through this and appreciate life a bit more.. Keep a good attitude about things.. It will make it a lot easier... |

But, at least you finally have a date, and its only a week and a half away. Good luck, bro. |
Glad to hear you've got a date so you can look forward to having it all finished. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
|
Hope your surgery goes well. Stay positive!
|
Thanks very much!
I start taking my pre-op meds this morning. Not a moment too soon either. I can barely move without causing major chest pains. I can't drive my car any more because it makes my heart beat faster and causes pains. |
Get well soon!!!
Hope for the best and to hear from you ASAP. |

In this case more likely than not is due to bicuspid aortic valve. How did I know? Well I'm not a mechanic :) And yes, positive approach is the way to go! @mike keep rest until surgery day, hope is ASAP And there are different family of pain medications, maybe you have a bad experience with one but you could discuss with your primary physician other alternative, less pain is alway better :respekt: |

I went to the Pre-Op tests and xrays today where they went over everything that will happen. Holy Shit, I am truly scared now!
I'll make it through this though, it's gonna suck. It's this, or death, so no choice in the matter. Surgery is Thursday morning at 7:15 |

You're going to be fine. Tell your wife to get on here and let us know how it went. |
Thanks!
I'm more scared of after the surgery actually. I'm confident the surgery will go smoothly, it's when I wake up, all tubed up, and I'm afraid I'm going to have to take the pain meds. I had issues with pain meds a long time ago, it's been 15 years since I've touched any kind of pain meds (or any drugs for that matter), but I may have to make the exception if things hurt too much after the surgery. |
Discuss that with your doctor before you go under and see if he can get you some non-narcotic painkillers that are worth a shit.
|
Mike,
You will be given and will need the pain meds. I understand your concern about getting strung out on them, but your mind and body will need them to heal and be able to get adequate rest the first few days. I also swore I'd never touch narcs again after spinal injuries, but have needed them for surgery recovery since. Advising your doctor, family, and caregivers of this concern is wise. With a positive attitude and supportive people around you this event will go smoother. I have you in my thoughts now and will on Thursday morning. Pete |
Oh you will be on anticoagulant forever probably warfain or coumadin are the most generic with a constant PT/INR for life. I see geriatric patient all the time with artifical and biological heart valve. The procure common, but you should have your affair in order just in case and be right with God. Sound like you are young your recovery will be fast. Always monitor incision site for infection after surgery, surgeons I always found to be full of themself
