During engineering they took the caymen R as a benchmark of driving characteristics, not to beat in a performance test.

For someone like yourself to state continued disappointment means that your still stuck on the race, rather than the emotion that has been lost in sports cars since the mid 90s. But Im not saying your wrong, your abosuletly right in your post. But what we are trying to ask here is to shift our sight from the norm...

For many of us here who have been following this car since its announcement in 2009. What we have been searching for is not numbers, but a forgotten love story. Many people here have a big resume of cars from all sorts of power ranges, and their most memorable and heart felt experiences as an enthusiast have been with the most underpowered unimpressive cars.

The FRS/GT86/BRZ is the that same lost love story. Which im willing to pay a premium for, even if I get beat against a competition of numbers.

This post is amazing. The only thing I see though is if you want that mid 90's sports car feel...why not just buy a mid 90's sports car. This is what makes this car a marketing nightmare, because there is no market for this car...Scion and Subaru have to create it. There is a reason why cars like the s2k, celica, supra, prelude, integra etc all died. This a niche segment that can be fullfilled by buying used 10-15 year old cars (which is what alot of enthusisats can afford anyway). Don't get me wrong, I love the car, I just see the challange Scion and Subaru are gonna face.

Do you really want to deal with 10-15 year old car from reliability pov? I really would prefer not to. Easy to find cars that old in good shape, untouched? Some would be in great shape, but in no way they will be "new" perfect.
A lot of people get this car as DD. No way I will DD a 10-15 year old car, unless day to day reliability is not a factor.
Sure, for weekend toy, it might be a better idea.

While they are similar in handling, they achieve it in completely different ways.

What we should be asking ourselves is whats more important to us as an individual buyer? In the overall bigger picture, even if the s2000 is a better performer, the BRZ still offers the same feeling of the sportyness of the s2000 but has a wider range of uses. AKA the Zx6 has better general value.

This x1000.

I loved my S2K but it was too impractical, and although I didn't want a convertible I ended up loving the convertible aspect of it. I loved the shifter, the engine, the looks. Everything.

I've always wanted a car like the S2000 in coupe form, and like you say...here it is.

18/24 is honestly pretty unrealistic for the S2000... I'm not sure what the EPA was doing when they were performing their test, but based on my ownership, it's incredibly inaccurate. The worst MPG I've ever gotten in my current S2000 is 23.1 mpg, with the highest being 30.1 MPG. I average 25.8 MPG in it. I don't particularly drive like a slouch either. By no means am I flogging it everywhere I go, but I use the power I've got.

In my last S2000, the worst mileage I ever got was 18.9 MPG and that was beating the hell out of the car all afternoon for a spirited 200 mile drive with friends. I averaged 24.5 MPG in that car with a best of 29.4 MPG and I autocrossed that car on several occasions, which I haven't done with my current one.

I do absolutely agree with you about the FR-S/BRZ offering a good amount of the S2000's fun while being worlds more practical though. The tiny trunk, loud soft top, puny stereo, and uncomfortable (for long trips) seats are four of the prime reasons I'm considering parting ways with my S for an FR-S/BRZ.

What if I don't live my life a 1/4 mile at a time?

I guess you'll never be free.

I'm willing to bet the S2000 is still faster than the BRZ on the track and just as much fun to drive. The BRZ is the car to change the industry. It's going to offer LIGHTWEIGHT, RWD, 200HP, HIGH REVVING, GREAT HANDLING.

Oh wait! Honda already did that with the S2000.

The S2000 is 50/50 weight distribution. 240hp. 9000 rpm redline. 2800lbs.

Specs are very competitive with the BRZ.

But remember.. This is a OLD car. The BRZ is a new car.

Honda did a great job with the S2000 and the Integra Type R.

New cars still aren't as quick and fun to drive as the original ITR. And that thing is from the year 2000. New cars just aren't the same. The BRZ and FRS is looking to change that. It's a good direction for automakers but the BRZ and FRS still isn't as good as some old classics.

Well guess what? Safety and emissions regulations change and get tighter. Otherwise, don't you think Honda would've made the DC5 just like the DC2?

AS was mentioned a million times before, the Zx6 is supposed to be a more livable car. Fixed roof, back seat. I doubt that the suspension is stiffer than the S2k.

FWIW, after driving an FR-S (finally) tonight, I may be willing to argue that the chassis is better than my S2000. The FA20 left a little bit of excitement to be desired, but the chassis itself was brilliant.

ESBjiujitsu 05-24-2012 11:04 PM

I felt the same thanks for verifying! I miss my S but the FRS/BRZ is more practical and its just exactly what i want!!!! But i have pictures of my S next to my bed. So that says it.....she left me too early :( some one took her from me by driving like an ass :(. Then I got an Audi TT, nice car but no S. Still fun with some moderate upgrades but the electrical system has a POS!

Seriously though, this is one of the dumbest posts I've read on this forum.

This has to be a joke... you thought it would beat an S2000 ($36,000, 270hp, 8000+ rpm redline) in a drag race? And you accuse other people of having their heads in the sand... kettle, pot, black, etc.

The guy is obviously a troll. You seen his other posts? He always bags the 86/BRZ and compares it to his Focus RS lol. Wrong wheel drive there buddy.

I hope he does *not* buy a 86/BRZ.. It would give the rest of us a bad image.

I'm hoping for the same. If the FRS and BRZ get as much aftermarket support as the S2000 we are in the gold.

I'm just really praying the stock FA20 motor can take some boost without internal work. The F20 and F22 are great motors to handle boost. Even though the BRZ and FRS are designed to be 200hp cars, I'm sure there will be a good selection of individuals planning to get more power from the FA20.

And before I get told that the BRZ and FRS wasn't meant to be a drag queen, neither was the S2000

ESBjiujitsu 05-25-2012 09:09 AM

With as much as the after market companies are already all over the platform I see it being developed even quicker then the s2k. Its going to be very popular and i see us having many tuner options just like the s if not more. Good things! Can't wait to see once the car is even more available in japan and the us because 10 times as many shops will have their hands on it!
