The engine has been in North America for ~10 years. Worldwide for 15. The architecture came out in the very late '80s.

Is it confirmed that that the 2.5 is an EJ? There's no sctual mention of it

A few model years had piston/ringland issues due to the OEM tune. Otherwise, they seem to be reliable to around 400whp with a GOOD knock and detonation-free tune. Knock/det kills these engines.

Don't believe the US ever got Recaros and this *is* the Detroit show. In any case, that interior is specific to the 1000 launch edition models. The standard car will NOT have blue leather/alcantara.

Well 37k i might as well get the Mustang V8 with a lot of new things...beside, what could beat the V8 ? 455hp....and it roar.

Subaru failed again.

Damn... I wonder if they've done anything about the ringland issue since they're putting the EJ in it.

I had a 2011 STI and my ringlands cracked after 50k miles

Point taken. I hope they offer recaros as an option at least this time.

It is certainly mind boggling how Subaru has chosen to kept the unreliable and outdated EJ257 in their flagship STi but is putting the newest FA20DIT power plant into the new WRX... The WRX seems to be the much more attractive buy at this point in time.

You are absolutely correct!

WRX will be a better buy 265 HP ? that is 30 HP less than an STI. Not by much, and you will get to save 10K

Still, at this point of time, the only time I think Domestics are doing better than the Imports.

Seems like the Domestics are woke up to reality, they know they are no longer in the God sent country that they can be Lazy, drinking beers while assembling or sketching, engineering new vehicles.

They realize that they are domestic, so to get a chance to other countries markets, they will have to win Domestic battle first.

For all that said. The C7 is a better buy than a Supra, GT-R, also Mustang is a better buy than EVO and STI.

For 37K rather have a boosted FR-S. I can also see basic bolt ons and a tune putting the WRX non STI way past stock STI numbers. I don't get why Subaru did this. STI also has to be a low volume car compared to the standard.

OrbitalEllipses 01-14-2014 11:47 PM

Don't forget the WRX while down on 30HP will also be lighter simply due to not having those fatty brakes and STI 6MT.
