Nope. It is a chain branded Bosch like WRX linked.

There is an old phrase: I'll get it done! It does no good when my wife constantly nags me every six months to get it done. :)

That was the ambient temperature before adjusting further downward for wind chill.
That is really the wrong time to find out that you waited too long to replace a car battery. :(

I have relatives in northern South Dakota. I've been there in the winter. If I lived there, I'd spare no expense for a battery.

But I'd have to be a serious meth head to even consider living there. So I'm good. :)

I spent a bit of time at an artic base that averages around -30 so -39 sounds a bit off.

It really has been that cold in the northern central states this year

Climate change - were at a severe solar minimum the last decade or so.

I have to admit that I sometimes really need to consider other people's situation in threads like this. I've only lived in Seattle, Texas, California and Kentucky. Any batter works just fine in those areas. That's why my OEM batteries last a decade. But there are people who live in insanely cold parts of the country. Battery quality is an issue and it matters bigly.

It's also why I'll never buy a used car from the rust belt. (rust)

Holy cow! I think I have maintenance elves. :)

I parked my car for several weeks during rainy weather last fall because I needed to finish installing my shocks. When I finished, the battery was completely dead. I thought I'd ruined it. I'm sure it lowered my battery's life span, but I believe the only time letting your batter go dead actually ruins it is if it is below freezing.

That's why I bought a new battery (and am returning it today). I just assumed the battery had gone dead and the temperature was in single digits.

BTW, 157k miles is impressive. I thought I was the only high mileage guy out there. Has it been pretty reliable?

This morning it was -17 and although it was the slowest crank ever it managed to start the car. All in all I have never had a slow crank from it in past winters no matter how cold so I know that battery is toast. It is tomorrows project!

Yeah. It sounds like it's time. ;)

I have a great motto for Canada, BTW:

Canada - virtually all of it is north of North Dakota!

LOL I live nearby the Northern Central states. What they get we get.

The coldest officially recorded temperature this week was in Bismarck ND and at -31 so it was still several degrees over -39. If it wasn't for his picture I would not have believed it. Sort of moot really when anything below about -5 is bloody cold anyway.

There are 24 (states or parts of) north of me. I am in Canada's Florida where the bulk of the population lives.

Yeah, I believe Vancouver Island and the far eastern part of Canada and the part near the Great Lakes dips slightly lower than the Northern boundary of North Dakota. But the rest... hahahaha!

Yeah, I meant "slightly" regarding the quantity of real estate. And being from the Seattle area, I still think of British Columbia as candada. ;)

And I don't count the part that thinks its France. :D

You mean the part I came from? It hasn't really thought it was France for a long time now.

Hey, I speak some French!

Sprechen sie Francais"
Or is it Polly-vous Deutsch?

I forget which. :)

My wife's Impreza had a really tough time turning over a couple days ago (when Toronto was deep in an extreme cold weather warning).
BUT: she had left on a bunch of accessories (i.e. the fan, the window defroster which also activates the air conditioning compressor, the lights, etc.). When she cranked it the next day (still very cold) but with all those switched off, the car started much better.

Maybe that will help you cheat a couple more starts out of the battery?
