That's what kills me. People think they're getting a "bigger" vehicle. Truth is many in the compact/small class have way less cargo room than a sedan/hatchback of similar size and you get the added benefit or terrible handling because the suspension has been raised...because you need that when traversing wastelands of the Costco parking lot or the wilderness of the pick-up line at your local grade school.

But they're safer.

But did you factor in off roading they do (parking on side of the road next to soccer field)?

I think jumping the curbs also count as offroading

OK @bcj you made me go look for one of my lost loves. This is exactly like the second car I owned in high school.

I paid $300 for it in 1976. They want $27K for this one. It's worth every penny.

4 wheel unassisted drum brakes, yikes. At least it has power steering.

One of my bucket list cars, I'm sure I've mentioned it many times before, is a specific 1966 Corvair Corsa, Yenko Stinger serial number YS-102. My auto shop teacher bought he car new in February of 1967. He blow up the stage II Yenko motor and decided to put a Z/28 302 crate engine in the back seat.
I saw the car every day in the nice weather with the air cooled flat 6. I saw it transformed into a V8 beast in auto shop class and everyday he drove it to school after that until graduation.
I have the name of the person who bought it from my teacher. He has since passed away and his one son was the last registered owner as far as I know.

These photos are from 1971. The car looks dull but it was really a very nice glossy dark maroon. I'm not sure why he replaced the Yenko rear deck lid with a standard lid. I think it look better with the Yenko lid.

Just means you can take a drive on leg days.

Then I'd add a roof rack for surfboards/kayaks for beach trips.

(Actually that's the first thing I'd have replaced with disk brakes. Then we'd take care of the "knock" in the top end by replacing it with an LS)

Get a used 981 cayman, S or GTS pending your budget. Way cheaper than the 4.0 and sounds better too.

S are 45k+ and GTS are 60k+ for about 10 year old car. I do think if budget is concern then get 981 but if one can swing and also get then new GTS is better value for money as depreciation is non existent.

Slightly used GTS (2-10k miles) are selling for more $$ than new... perhaps as a result of crazy ADM charges. Worse, the available ones were ordered with silly options... $$ for embroidered crests and extra decals? Call me old school, but a used car should cost less than new!

So I reached out to a few dealers in SoCal... asked about Cayman GTS 4.0 allocations. They all laughed and hung up when I said bubba won't pay ADM. Yesterday one called me... said he had one coming that I could change to *MY* specs for MSRP, but I had 2 minutes to decide!!! So I did... might end up hating the car and its tall gearing, but doubt I will lose money on it. So will see how it compares to my BRZ when it gets here in a few months. (Assuming they don't cancel, change their mind, blow up, etc.)

That's pretty awesome, congratulations. I don't have ball to put 6 figures in to a single car. You won't loose any money for sure given it's last model year and demand is only going to go up.

Congrats. You will love it no doubt. My base 14 cayman with soul long tube headers, PSE, a tune and X73 suspension is a perfect weekend mountain car, it’s a forever car.

For your aging years of driving, I would suggest a mid sized SUV.

* AT so you don't get confused.
* Large windshield and windows so you can see better.
* Sets up high so you can see better and get in and out easier.
* Lots of nannys that flash and tell you when you get too close to something else.
* Large back up camera.
* Auto stop for when you are about to run into or back into something.
* Gps so you can just punch in "home" if you get lost.

So many more things -

So, I have a Subaru Ascent parked in the garage next to my BRZ. Maybe not all, but it does tick a lot of boxes on my checklist. When you look under the hood, everything looks very familiar; a lot of same same but different.
