BUT the camo could be hiding things in the rear, though doubtful.

If I didn't know better, I'd say you didn't actually like the FT-86.

I don't believe in that weight calculation from R/T until I see the actual vehicle specs from the manufacture.

Until then, I'll let you guys continue to pound sand all day long! ;):bellyroll:

High 8's 0-60 for the auto will turn off a lot of potential buyers. Isn't the tC faster than that?

NikostC 06-30-2011 06:25 PM

3000 lbs my ass. If they took the 2011 impreza shortened the frame by 12 inches removed 2 doors took out the back seats and gave it an aluminum trunk and hood it would weight under 2800lbs +/-5%.

Spaceywilly 06-30-2011 06:55 PM

The 2011 forester uses the same FB-series engine without DI and gets 174 ft-lbs. It is 2.5 litres, but there's no way the ft86 will only have 150. This article is full of shit.

0-60 times aren't the sole basis for insurance rates. If they were, my MS6's rates would have been on par with STi and Evo rates, but they were in fact significantly lower (like lower than my Civic even). I think vehicle safety and intended target audience do play a major role though.

The R/T chop looks good. I do really hope they keep the weight at no more than 2800lbs though. Even that is pushing it, if they are intending to really build the sportscar they've been promising, if they want to keep the power that low.

Mazda engineers are on record as stating the rear doors required the chassis to be about 180 pounds heavier than a comparatively sized 2 door coupe.

I'm guessing that these guys are pulling this from comparable cars. Which doesn't exist. The RX-8 is 3100lbs and is 10" longer. 2866 is the number to beat!

It has more to do with cost to repair than safety. The insurance companies come out with a chart every year showing how much each car costs to insure vs. the average. The WRX/STI is usually something like 500% of the average for collision damage, but actually below the average for personal injuries. It is also among the safest cars based on number of fatalities. Basically there are bunch of asshats driving them who like to crash into things, and the parts to fix them are expensive.

This is why I'm worried.

If that's what we get I'll be more than happy....:iono:

I've been begging Mazda to make an actual Miata coupe for 20 years so if Toyobaru gives me a S2000 coupe (-40hp) for miata money even better.

3000lbs my ass thats as heavy as my V6 commodore.

Dimman 06-30-2011 09:35 PM

3000 lbs? Seriously? Supras can cut weight to less than that.

If there's talk of 3000 lbs in the rumour mill, that could mean they're trying to get us used to the fact that it's creeping up. I was expecting 2700 lbs, hoping for 2500lbs.

But I'm going to have to adjust my expectation to 2850 lbs.

This is too much.

If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself...

2ZZGE/6M + MR-S + hardtop = doing myself what Toyota can't seem to figure out.

That sounds nice. As does Miata + Hardtop + rotrex supercharger :burnrubber: My choice is a 99 10th anniversary edition, I love that blue.
