If anyone wants a full size spare, I'll swap my steely, boot floor and boot liner for a space saver and flat floor (when you get your car, of course).

Not happy about this at all. I have no intention of ever putting my car on a track and the gains I would have in not having a spare wheel will be far less than the pain in the arse of having to use one of those tyre inflation kits.
With the removal of the spare wheel, will they be getting rid of the spare wheel well and making it only large enough for the tyre inflation kit? If so there is no point in hunting around for a spare wheel when I eventually get my car.

No idea mate. Must be a cost saving thing. I'm not too pleased about it either since I signed up to get a car with a spare tyre and now all I'm getting is a kit.

No I don't think so. Reading the PDF it says "From September Production"

"From" as in "beginning with September Production". Meaning everything built after August.

Maybe wrong but that's how I read it. I guess people with September builds will be able to tell us in October.

If it's the same inflation kit that Lexus uses for the F-Sport - I have one, it's saved me once, and the goop didn't upset my tyre guy at all.

I'd assume it's either the same one or very close. Other benefit is that you won't have to use service stations to inflate/reflate/repressure your tyres if you stay with "air" rather than nitro - you now have a pump (They can be switched to just pump without the goo).

In fact it now means I can get goo locally!.

BTW - I carry the standard (spacesaver) spare and the inflation kit in the Lex all the time because I'd rather use the goo if possible when on longish trips than a spacesaver (which I'd use around town to get me to my tyre guy)

Nope that's a part of the sub structure. The well will still be there.

Excellent - all the "Must have a huge sub" club have got somewhere to put it now.

You'd have to assume that if the spare is deleted that jack, tools etc are going also which means even if you get a spacesaver you'll still need a jack etc.

My Elise came with spare-in-a-can, no jack, no tools.

If not, as a consumer your losing out on approx: 250 (wheel) + 200 (tires) + 50 (tools) - 100 (foam kit) = $400

retail on the 17" tyre from Michelin is $295, check with Toyota spares on the price of the alloy, you'll find it's a LOT more than $250.

My car is getting built this month so this news doesn't effect me.

I doubt it. In fact I'd put my house on it. They don't play with the pricing on a week to week basis. This will be a simple way of increasing GPU without increasing price. They did say they wouldn't commit to a full size spare for the life of the car and were looking at other markets and their own feedback on the Australian spec for such things. And secondly, such things cost Toyota far less than you're quoting there. I'd be surprised if this saves them $150 per car. Also, I could be wrong but I believe all cars must be supplied with tools for removing wheels so the jack and wheel brace would stay, I think.
