It makes no sense to have the twins use differing engine setups with different power. Either both will be turbo, or neither. If they use the FA24 and keep it turbo (my hope), I doubt it makes more power. They may tune it to rev more freely, but not much more. If they rip the turbo off, they have a bit more work to tune it to rev high and freely... at least 7000rpm. Sorry OP, but your rumours don’t pass the sniff test.

The F turbo setups mounts the turbo in front of the oil pan, under the crank damper. They're QUITE a bit taller than the FA20, which went as far as squeezing the exhaust manifold MUCH closer to the engine than even an NA FB25 for the sake of mounting it lower.
It's not impossible, it's just against the design mission of this car. |

What people seem to be forgetting is that just because many sources have speculated that the 2nd gen twin will be getting an FA24 that doesn't mean that it will be the engine out of the Ascent. Just like the FA20 in the twins currently is not the same FA20 found in other Subaru models. If it is a 2.4l at all it would likely only be similar in displacement.
Toyota & Subaru have many tricks in their toolbox and I would expect that the 2nd gen twin will be more powerful, agile and fun to drive than the current twins with a close to 50/50 weight bias. I also believe that the next version will be priced slightly lower than the new Supra, figure $35k-$40k. Honestly at this point though everything is speculation, as Subaru is certainly one of the tighter lipped companies out there, and Toyota too. |

Sorry don't see the point of these threads. There's a new one like every week. I won't get my hopes up. I'm more of a "won't believe it till I see it" kind of guy. However, I do trust Subaru/Toyota to make the right decisions for the next generation. They made a great car already and I'm sure after 7 years, they will make necessary improvements and keep the same formula that made the original one so great. If they make it with that much more power, the people who keep whining about it can upgrade and be happy and the people who don't need it can keep the one they have. I know it's hard not to try to look into the future and think about the next gen that's two years away, but I think we should just enjoy what we have now and just wait till the actual company makes an announcement.
