I've seen the small battery that replaces the oem one (that the electric supercharger setup uses) and it's way less money than 500. It's like 130 or less. Huge difference.

Yup you're right, I just pulled the one from the vendor, here's a Shorai battery for a bike at $185 that some guys have used. The SuperB I was thinking of seems to be for heavier duty applications, with this Shorai it sounds like there is a risk that it won't keep up with some rigorous demands but if you're going for all out performance then the compromise is worth it.

My first thoughts were single exit exhaust, and that surely they could've made much lighter seats at the same price point. Hell, the single exit exhaust would've saved money, so maybe they could've taken the savings and invested them into making the wheels a pound lighter or something. Maaaybe a one piece driveshaft? Which again seems like it would save money.

I feel a 1 piece driveshaft was another way foy weight to have been reduced from the factory.

I think thinner glass could have been used as well. Unless there are regulations governing thickness. A slightly smaller washer fluid tank (I think someone mentioned that), could have shaved some pounds.

Of course I would have loved to see aluminum arms in the suspension, but my guess is that it would have increased costs.

I've been using my Shorai for exactly 2 years. Daily driven over 3 seasons, no issues.

To the OP, these are the major things I've done which could've been done at OEM:

Flywheel 12#
Driveshaft 13#
Wheels/tires (33lbs/corner) 28#
Brakes 12#

Battery 25#
Rear Seat Delete 25#
Spare and tools 25# (+5 for a continental slime/inflator kit)
Smaller Windshield Washer Tank 2#
Lighter Rear Exhaust 10#

~152# down without much loss in functionality. ~66# rotating weight loss. ~40# unsprung/rotating weight loss.

I have also been using my Shorai without issue since November 2013. I don't DD it though. But I'm also using the iddy biddy one that's meant for four wheelers and jet skis. I really feel like car manufacturers could switch over to lithium iron. I realize some people live in colder places than I do here on the Gulf Coast, but that little thing cold-started my car in 15°F successfully. I'm sure one twice as big could handle any DD scenario for the long term. They're a bit more expensive than a traditional battery... initially... but they last longer so are probably cheaper in the long run.
