Turns out it's not just me. Town council is working on a new noise ordinance because a bunch of the ricer boys in town have silly fart cans like the kid down the street and I just got caught in the melee. These kids like to play on the hill up to my street at night and sometimes it gets really loud so they assumed I was one of them I guess. There are some people that complained about him and sometimes when I pull out from the stop sign at the corner at 5:45am I make some noise too. I pulled a couple of pics of the bottom of the twins from different websites to show that mine is stock so that should cover it as well as a phone call that was made on my behalf from a sergeant in another town vouching for me. Apparently they have tested a bunch of cars already and still have more to go. Stupid shit...

mine with catless header and catback now starts quiter than stock with tune changes, it only effects cold start up phase and is well worth the effort. |
I would be interested to know how they are measuring the noise.
Interesting write up here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80085 that includes a brief section on how it is supposed to be measured.http://media.caranddriver.com/images...s-original.jpg |

Two hours of my life wasted. They had me bring the car to their garage and leave it for 90 minutes to ensure it was cooled down. Then they used an iPhone app and had me start the car while they held the phone about ten feet behind the car. They asked me to rev the engine to about 3k right away and I said no it needed to run for a while before I would do that. Apparently everybody winds their car up as they start it :iono: That didn't go well and I had to explain what a bad idea that was and it's something I would never do. Then they raised it on the lift and took a few pics and I showed them what I had come up with and they said if they have any more problems they'd call me back in for a more formal examination.
I told them if they really want to get an idea of what these cars sound like they should come to our houses, or wherever the problems are being created, to get a real world measurement and they should use real equipment not a smartphone. They said the info they were gathering would be sufficient. bullshit... |

Did you see where I said they are "researching" the sounds of different cars to come up with a baseline for a new sound ordinance and because there is a car down the street from me that's set up with a stupid fart can I got caught up in the mix? I don't expect to hear about it again other than hearing some of the local ricer boys whining about needing to have their mods pulled and brought back (closer) to stock. We have no emissions controls here so people do some really dumb shit and their cars are really annoying.

That is bonkers. My neighbors would get the story of your day screamed at them at a volume louder than your car if that was me.

I must be lucky. I have a track pipe and dual exit muffler delete and know my neighbors well enough they would say something to me if it bothered them. Haven't had one complaint in almost 3 years. I also try to start and go and get out of the neighborhood as quickly and quietly as possible.

i had the real EVO 3, it was awful. went to perrin non-resonated, recently switched to resonated.
for you, i'd go with a q300, unless you want to change your front pipe as well. i plan on doing tomei EL header, HKS dual resonated with my ownhighflow cat, and mate that with my resonated 2.5 perrin use to have an STI with EWG, catless, non resonated etc. got tired of the loud pretty fast and so did everyone around me in the mornings, i shit you not i set of this dudes alarm every morning  now its nice to have loud when you want it and silent when you aren't on it. |
Never been, but fuck Mahopac.
It's the worse thing when town council get's involved in the automotive world. Soon enough they'll start banning people from working/washing their cars on their driveways, which is already happening all over in America. Anti car culture. Loud cars have been around for over 70 years, I'm surprised people start giving a shit now. Coming to a neighborhood near you! Over here in Nassau, since we already pay ridiculous taxes, throw the lawyer word and everyone just goes home. |
I got the exhaust in today and will be installing tomorrow. I hope this helps enough. By the way I went with a replica q300 so I will also be posting a review for those interested. It was $299 shipped and surprisingly looks extremely well made.

Buy a harley... =)

I have a pretty loud set up and I'm thankful that my one of my neighbors is also a car enthusiast.

So I installed the exhaust and all I can say is wow. Thanks to everyone who recommend changing the catback over switching to a resonated/catted front pipe. The exhaust is so quiet now that it's almost too quite, but definitely solved the problem.
Review: Price- unbeatable at $299 shipped!!! Packaging- was sent in with the tips wrapped and foam insulation to protect it. Couldn't have been packaged better. Whereas the manzo came in with a giant hole in the box and no padding. Fitment- was perfect and spot on. No tilt or messing with the hangers, doesn't hit any of the under body. Sound- As mentioned above is quiet but has zero drone. Sounds sporty and good. Will post pics very soon! |
Now you need to move to a more secluded area and make her loud again! :p
