Us release?

Is there going to be a release of this car in the US or is it only in Japan? I know the scion is almost the same car. But the Toyota one has more features, so that is why I would like to know for certain. Is it isn't going to be release in the US than why not?

zAnSh1n 03-07-2012 01:33 AM

the AS1 will only be offered from Scion [FR-S] and Subaru [BRZ] in the US...

Brz is basically equivalent to the gt-86, except for minor details.
equivalent as meaning features. price range and market.

Not just cosmetically, but suspension tune aswell

zAnSh1n 03-07-2012 01:54 AM

the sus is tuned slightly different between the gt86/fr-s and brz, no?

Looks like Europe gets the frameless rear view mirror. Why we not get this in the USA?

zAnSh1n 03-07-2012 03:05 AM

i prefer the auto-dimming w/ homelink...

Your not seriously trying to compare a FF car to the FR of the GT86 are you?

... Anyways thanks for the pics and I am happy to hear the official weight!

That's why the best RWD cars are actually just a FWD car going in reverse!

does it really add that much more weight being a rwd?

and as far as i can see, the brz "feels" smaller than the other two as well, so...

he was just saying it could be lighter but he doesnt consider the crash test ratings of the celica... they flat out suck... except the rear end will total any car that hits it, ive been rear ended twice both cars that hit me were totaled and my car hasnt had the bumper changed yet, i am $2500 richer from "damaged bumpers" thats like a whole paycheck right there!

thanks bro...I just like that mirror I know the home link is good, but what if this has auto dimming and homelink too? Nobody has said yes or no on it.

hmmm, maybe, but hard to believe on a "frameless" unit... unless if the homelink buttons are touchscreen based :D

WTF?

This is a Toyota GT86, which is not coming to the US...

Are European crash standards typically less stringent?

Also there is no stripped down version of the GT86 in europe. So is this 2601 pounds for that version?

Maybe just maybe the Subaru BRZ is going to be 100 to 160 heavier than the FR-S....hmmmm maybe....LMAO!

it appears so, judging by the lighter weight...

kangu 03-08-2012 02:58 AM

I really wish that the Scion FR-S came with the same climate control layout thats in the GT-86.

From 'first drive' reports... 'when you ask Tada-san, the engineering boss in charge of the project the usual, turgid, Nurburgring lap-time question, he just shrugs and smiles. He doesn't care: "This doesn't matter."'

Very interesting to see it come in under 1200kgs though. To get a modern coupe weighing that little is impressive :-)

Notice they said the Nurburgring played an important roll, not nurburgring laptimes played an important role... SMH:slap:

Alfie 03-08-2012 10:41 PM

Glad to see they doubled the hight/protection of the plastic stone chip cover just behind the front wheels- now held with 3 rivets and it looks like these models have also been fitted with the plastic wheel well liners front and rear. I was starting to worry about this 'cause we can have some pretty gritty and salty winters in Toronto!

why? They've said from the beginning that this car isn't about fast lap times or big horse power, but that it was all about Balance

so it's 0-100km time is "low" I guarantee you when driven it will feel properly planted and consistent rather than all over the place like some cars are

stlgrym3 03-09-2012 09:13 PM

why Toyota name them Scion here in the US? such a turn off. i want originality, i want tradition, Scion brand has neither, it reeks cheap teenager first car with loud audio system to me.

You're an open minded chap aren't ya?

Peel off the Scion badges, glue on some Toyota ones, always refer to it as the '86, and get it serviced at a joint Toyota/Scion dealership where you can wait with all the Camry and Prius owners.

I drive a Scion and I am neither a teenager nor is it my first car. And I'm completely content with the stock audio system thank you very much :iono:

Scion is toyota either way, the bond between a person and the brand they follow is like a relationship, if they dont keep changing we will get bored with them, and if our pockets go empty they will leave us ahahah

scion still has toyota's reliability thats whats important

edit: and scion is about as original as it gets

Stryker Trailwood 03-10-2012 01:23 AM

IMO, everyone who hates that the US is getting a Scion FR-S and isn't getting it because of a badge, it is great for the rest who only care that it is enjoyable to drive/own and couldn't care less what small plastic badge a car has and what other people supposedly think about it.
More for those people.

I just have to say I TOLD YOU SO... by so I mean that this car would be around 2600 lbs. hah!

Gadflyii 03-10-2012 03:37 PM

US curb weight will be 2750lbs. That is my guess and I am sticking to it :)

Esoteric 03-10-2012 06:33 PM

White baby...

Just like an M3 or a Honda Type R... white looks best when you tasteful mod the car and brings great attention to the rest of the details like wheels, tint, headlights, etc...

Hope ours comes in as ordered *fingers crossed* :coolpics:

Agreed. I had to look at all the pics again and white is one of the best colors. All Japanese cars look good in white.

zAnSh1n 03-12-2012 07:16 PM

too bad these only come in pearl white :|

Swiss Driver 03-15-2012 09:52 PM

Yesterday I was in Geneva.

I am a little disappointed because the black and the blue one aren't there anymore.

The curb weight of the orange one is 1239 kg (it's with 90% fuel and 75 kg driver).
And the car is nearly fully equipped.

Base price for Switzerland is CHF 41.600 (quite high).
