Regards to Dublin Toyota playing host, they said YES! Next, what Saturday works best for most ppl? Then, I really suggest a committee to make this happen as DT (Dublin Toyota) is allowing more than just cars on the lot, hence others can take charge of what could happen. The location they are willing to donate is very very cool - I wouldn't have imagine that space. Location!

Sorry I got few more PMs to reply to and I will. Give me this evening as I have my kids to worry about now, for a lil' while. I'll be in Concord, Pleasanton, then CV for some errands with the kids. No FR-S, SUV instead - bigger gas tank haha

Only problem in see here is food. Pretty sure there are no bbq pits there right?

How are we going to do the cooking?

MyRx 03-01-2013 08:11 PM

We bring grills and everything else necessary. There's a gazebo for anything needing shade otherwise, EZ Ups can be justified. These are details we all can discuss or point someone to take charge.

Keep in mind, DT is still just an option and not in stone. Other options are still present and alive. I can't decide for everyone or majority. Let a committee be present and decide.

680N traffic is slow btw

Just came to mind, a caterer does our big RC events. Great simple foods, burgers, dogs, steak sandwiches, simple stuff. I'll see what he costs to get to a place or just charges people to eat.

CAtered would prob be the best option at Dublin Toyota (maybe a food truck?)

Bbqs would pose 2 issues I see: no BBQ is fitting in an FRS so some people will have to bring trucks and not go on the drive. Also, it will be a much smaller grill than a BBQ pit so the food will come out in smaller waves instead possibly causing serving/cooking time issues.

I'll swing by when I get off Bart to look at the area though.

crouchingpinoy 03-02-2013 06:19 AM

Food truck!

No need to worry about cooking/prepping/equipment/shopping, it shows up and everyone can eat at their convenience. I like the idea, of course as long as DT is on board with it.

There's a variety of food truck options but you can't go wrong with tacos/burritos!

I shall be posting a poll tonight :)

JackSmiley 03-03-2013 12:17 AM

Im pretty sure DT will turn this meet into a sales gig for the 86. DT is a dealership, and they run a biz and when you run a biz you have to take advantage of anything that could turn into a profit producing gig.

86_ZN6 03-03-2013 12:42 AM

poll is now up!

active for 2 weeks

vote now!

Very true sir. Ask yourself and others this, how big or small do you want this to be? We can make an FT86 movement in NorCal. Or keep it minimal and just lounge at someplace. DT can accommodate a movement as long as we don't burn the place down. Seeing a small venue on their prop would be embarrassing, IMHO. They are very generous on accomodating ANY idea you may have relative to this car. Any relative idea, they are a green (no autocross or 60ft launches of course).

Up to the masses if we should or shouldn't pursue DT's generousity, for profit or not.

86_ZN6 03-03-2013 01:32 AM

@MyRx were you present last november?

Where exactly at the dealership were they planning on this being? I drove by and didn't see any real options besides the front of their lot with a gazebo type canopy. Also, would they be providing tables/chairs? These logistical questions are things I feel we need answers to in order to vote. We know the logistics if its at a park because its been done, dealership logistics vary based on what they are willing to provide.

Also, a "movement"like you are talking about would be great, but if they were really into that I think they would be selling cars at msrp like a customer friendly dealer and not doing high add ones to make more money just cause they can. Besides, the Nov meet was awesome( see pic thread here http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21952) , and the first June meet was sponsored by SF Toyota. They planned the drive and took care of breakfast. One of them (manager maybe?) owned an frs. They were more about pleasing us then just offing a place to host.

Look, DT may be awesome, but I don't feel like why they are is being explained beyong they are offing a space to host. That's all. Maybe if you could elaborate more it would make this easier.

russv 03-03-2013 11:31 AM

I'm leaning towards more of a park setting like the Novato meet in November. Beautiful area and significant other friendly. The thought of having the meet in a dealer parking lot is not particularly appealing. Just my $.02.

Kamakanani0 03-03-2013 12:22 PM

Can't wait since I haven't been to one yet!

That would be nice. It could happen. I don't know any models tho. But the caterer that does our big RC events does bring 'trophy girls' to help him out. Staring at guys and RC cars from 2-4 days can impair a man's vision.

Yes, that's the strip DT is willing to offer, that row of cars right along 580, underneath that giant white Toyota/Scion sign. They may/can/could accomodate whatever space we need along that strip. They've volunteer to move their cars to the back lot.

This option is still well alive and present. I gave another member the contact person I spoke to about Del Valle. Del Valle has ft86club.com (NorCal) 'pinned' on their calendar. Let the voting begin.

Back to this...to elaborate. As I and DT's POC spoke and evaluated the idea far more time than I expected. In my honest opinion, YES, DT may be using this approach to capitalize on whatever they may/can capitalize on. Is there benefit for them? YES. Is there benefit for me (us)? NO. They will continue to be the dealership the day after. So, in light of making this easier, they are generously offering the strip of land as mentioned, and with it comes these unexpected generousities or hurdles...

- Allow local ft86 vendors. Yes, I have a list of ~8 local vendors. Depending what vendor can commit, will justify if more or less land can be appropriated. I'd like some SoCal vendors too but let's start with NorCal's. Do you know any vendors that would like to come to our meet? Any meet?
- Small, stationary gazebo like stated above, so EZ-Ups can be justified. I'd personally like to see a group of EZ-Ups tethered to make a large shaded area. If we can get a DJ, he can be stationed underneath that gazebo.
- Table/Chairs/BBQ - none exist. We can bring our own (put them under the grouped EZ-Ups) or we rent from a party supply store down the street. Popcorn machine, cotton candy machine, why not hehe.
- BBQ or food. OR catered. Agreed, I'd preferr not to cater ourselves, instead get a professional. I'm waiting for a return call from the caterer that does our RC events (mentioned previously). Simple foods at the price you would normally pay for burger, dogs, steak sandwiches, or whatever he has on his menu (never seen him serve tacos/burritos tho).
- Costs? At this point, nil. I really don't think DT is charging us for a strip of land OR at least, neither I or them have come across that subject. In their best interest, they may be using this as an advertisement. In our best interest, we can use them, IMO, for a meet like no other. "Movement" may be too promising of a word, rather a local ft86 meet hosted by the very dealership that sells it. I can review with them if any charge will occur, from individual pockets or vendors. BUT this ain't free, you pay whatever you may consume - food, drinks, oil change, set of wheels, new car - that's out of your pocket. Donate to the cause if renting supplies is what we come up with.

NOW, here's what I've personally thought of since the conversation and thru Mines yesterday with a couple BRZs. BY NO MEANS, have I or will I ask ANYONE to go beyond their daily means or business. I won't ask DT or any possible vendor(s), caterer, supply store, etc willing to attend any special favors or discounts. We spread the costs if any is incurred amongst those that attend - it would be great if a vendor can pick up the tab for renting supplies, BUT I won't ask them that. If you know them, you're at liberty to ask.

Finally. I hope I've answered some questions. Beyond this are just finer details. I've thought outside of the box enough hehe. As very well, could easily think inside and just follow a train of twins. I'm not by any means, pushing anyone to take advantage of this (DT playing host) nor will I attempt to convince anyone to vote DT.

Whew, I hope Edge still has some donuts lmao

86_ZN6 03-03-2013 02:52 PM

I'll pick up the tab just like november if it's a park as i already know all the logistics to make it a successful meet/gathering.

If it's a dealership, then ill let them (the host) plan it.

Since we're still debating which place to have the meet, do we have a date for this event? If its gonna happen in april we should have this sorted out before the 2nd week of this month, at least we have time to prep and plan out what needs to be prepared. I also wanna know the date so i can request that day off from work.

Hey all I am totally DOWN! I just read through all 6 pages of talk about this meet to get caught up. Some things. Late April works best for me. I have a memorial to go to in around Mid April and that has to take priority, I would hate to miss a massive, like once-a-year eight-six meetup.

I would be totally down to help setup, tear down, clean, bring extra chairs, soda, what ever. I also have a quad-rotor and could take some areal photos of the meetup.

Also how do East Bay folks feel about meeting up at a big park early in the morning and driving in a small train up to the meetup? I would be happy to organize that. Problem is that I don't know the area outside of Fremont very well. If anyone wants to suggest someplace further north in East Bay I am all ears. Right now I was thinking about meetup up at Union Landing over by the Staples or Office Depot or what ever office supply place that is there across from the Chevy's. It should be dead since it would likely be a Saturday and early'ish in the morning.
