Comes down to overall price. I like like the subaru more overall. Only thing I like on the scion more is the front fascia design. Other than that, im diggin the subaru. Seeing as how the subarus price will be somewhat negotiable, if I can get it for about the same as the frs, subbie for me but if the difference is still a few grand more after negotiating, probably the scion.

For me, I feel like the subaru is just a better representation of the car. First off, the motor is primarily their design as is a bunch of other mechanical bits on the car. While im not retracting away from toyotas efforts and awesome involvement with the car, I feel like, at heart, the car is really a subaru...but based upon its development history branching from classic toyotas it seems as though its soul is a toyota. I own 2 new scions as daily drivers right now. Theyre good cars but they FEEL so cheap. They feel expendable. I have a feeling the overall feel of being in the subaru will be a bit different.

Not hating scion cause theyre a great company. Obviously theyre the same car but there are differences between the two. Other people can agree, some cars from some manufactures have a special feel to them. One different from other cars though they may be similar. Seeing as how im parting with my built track/drift s14 that ive had for over 5 years as well as my daily tc, I just wanna buy what drives and FEELS like a sports car....not an economical coupe like my current scion.

That being said, unless the price gap is vast, ill be going with the subaru

Took the words right outa my mouth!! I don't want to get into my sick looking sports car and see all this cheap knobs taken from the TC!

Coming from a civic Si 06 the dash has got to look hot... Your inside the car driving so it's what you'll be seeing the most often!

For me it depends a lot on price and how I can pick and choose options.

However I will say that I hate hate hate the Scion brand image. I'm not some teenager who's looking to be a stripped down crappy xA or xB. I want a quality well made and well engineered car and I want it's image.

I don't think more highly of Subaru over Toyota, but I sure do over Scion. I'd rather have a Kia or Hyundai badge on my car than that stupid "youth oriented" Scion badge.

What's wrong with Scion? I'm just trying to figure out what is wrong with their cars, the image is different. I've never heard of Scion cars being unreliable or having poor quality parts. It's still a Toyota, and the customer service Scion dealerships have are definitely top 3 in the country right now.

Probably the FRS, since I get a decent discount on parts at the Toyota Dealership.
Which now also sells the SCION.

CSSM 12-06-2011 06:20 PM

The Subaru is more mature, and I like the brand a lot more that Scion. Where I live, the FRS will be on every street corner, but the BRZ will only be in my garage. I want a quality car with the image to go with it, as WolfpackS2k mentioned

NemesisPrime909 12-06-2011 07:46 PM

My vote goes to the FR-S I just hope i'll be able to get the newer head unit instead of that one that looks like it came from the first gen scions

my reason for choosing the FR-S is simple the BRZ sti hasn't come out yet and we have no idea when it will arrive

so better to get the lighter more agile version than eventually get the sti as a track car and then make the FR-S a daily

the problem is Scions have a huge association with young kids

an association that many people don't like. However, said people fail to realize that yes , a lot of young people buy scions, but that in no way affects what type of car they are or their quality.

so if you do buy a Scion you maybe grouped together with wannabe hipsters, and what not, but that doesn't matter. All that matters is how you feel about the car

I guess I don't understand the Scion vs. Subaru debate. I've attended my fair share of car shows, track days, and SEMA, and from my perspective it's the same crowd. Same age group, same passion, same exact people in many cases.

In relation to the FR-S/BRZ, it's the same car mechanically and the same material quality inside and out. The BRZ Premium and the base FR-S will be almost exactly the same except NAV, HIDs, front fascia, and color choice.

+1
Subaru is the same thing as Scion.

eh...Leaning more towards the BRZ now because I'm an indecisive bastard. I need to see them both in person. Pictures alone don't do it for me.

assuming this info is correct, and both being for the most base models, where are you guys getting your details on standard options for both the subaru and the toyota? i am newish here but ive been looking through teh forum and cant really find that info. anyway, besides minute differences in pricing/options, aesthetics, and brand image () these first round, naturally aspirated, non sti/trd models are gonna be the same car. with slightly different spring rates.

I'm not going to say one more word against the people that choose to give Subaru money. I'm just going to shit all over the brand to anyone and everyone that will listen until they fix their retarded Canadian pricing.

doesnt it also make sense that subaru does this because they know the desirability of their awd capabilities in such climates? if true, this car will not necessarily fit under that same dogma.

Well I plan on getting the FR-S, a couple of reasons is cause I have a few friends that work at toyota and get me extras :)

Then ever since I saw the concept I was like omg I'm getting that car, now that I've seen the 2013 release I still want the car, although a little less, loved the look of the old headlights.

The car use to look like a pissed off aggressive machine, the new headlights make it look like a smiley anime face.

That and my brother is the subaru guy, I'm the toyota guy and we love competing :P

I'll be picking up the FR-S. I like the looks better and for me it's all about the cheaper of the 2. Yeah, so what the Subie has some more options? I could care less. I'll have maybe 2 options picked out for the Scion, and I have a friend who can get me a deal on one. Yeah, if I had a little more money I might buy the BRZ, but I know what I want and that's cheap. The radio and lack of a few things doesn't bother me.. as long as I can get white and a 6 speed, I'm set on the Scion... for now.
