I'll stand by my statement. 100hp per liter or greater is rare to find from any engine size. It is usually expensive to produce, so it is only found on high end cars like a Porsche or Ferrari, or on superbikes. I get that it has been done, but again, it is expensive to produce.

The F20C was a great engine, and an expensive one, having forged internals and carbon sleeves to name some features. The MSRP on the S2000 in 2002 for instance was $32,000+/-. Adjust for inflation and today it would cost $43,500. Not exactly a comparison to the twins.

The K20 in the RSX Type S would set you back $23,845 in 2002. In today's dollars that would be $32,445.

The B18C5 in the 1997 Acura Integra, another amazing engine at the tip of their performance, was sold for $24,000. Twenty years of inflation means that Integra would have a $36,600 msrp.

What would the twins cost in 2002 dollars or 1997 dollars? For a $26,000 GT86 today, you could buy it for $19,000 and $17,000, respectively.

The Mazda Skyactiv 2.0L has a 13.1:1 compression, which bests our car, but produces only 155hp and 150tq.

At this price point, there are no modern equivalents.

I don’t think it’s that simple to just apply inflation like that. Cars in that segment today have gone up in price but not that much. They have all gone FI though. The new Civic makes 306hp with FI and is 33,9. The F20C was sort of a loss leader so yeah maybe it’s a bad example cost wise. But the K20 isn’t an exotic lost art that can’t be done today due to extreme costs. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if the K20 costs less to produce than an FA20 with it’s dual injection. It isn’t like the K uses aluminum and the FA20 uses cheap iron.

My guess is Subaru just isn’t interested in investing resources in a car with such low sales. It’s easier to slap a turbo on it then to spend resources on clever engineering.or simply slap new taillights on it and call it a day. Hahaha

I would classify myself as a driving enthusiast more than a car enthusiast so I don't have a sub to Car and Driver and follow the latest and greatest cars from every manufacturer on the daily. I just had a brief look at the current market and it looks like no one is making 100HP/L anymore. I will blame this on Obama. Hahaha. The S2000 ended in 2009. When did all his environmental restrictions kick in? I don't recall. But I bet that has a lot to do with it. Too damn hard to get good power these days without FI or bigger displacement. The ILX for example is 28k and has 200hp but it also has a 2.4L.

I will concede... making more power with NA is a good trick in the current market and environmental restrictions.

I can still dream though right? Hahaha

The kids that complain about the same old 200hp in the FRS/BRZ are the same kids that cum in their skinny jeans when their friend buys a beat to shit 240sx with a stock 200hp SR swap.

Don't forget the gucci belt and wear them low, single and available while the automatic shifts for them.

Oh I get it. So this is why old people drive crown vics? Because only young people in skinny jeans like more HP. I guess I’m a young 41 years old then. Hahaha

Some of us don't complain on factory output, never even remember that being a thing before the interweb. There's nothing wrong to modify for more power, just do it.

Definitely an FA24 with 94mm bore and same stroke (see below link).

Seems like a bit of a waste considering it only makes 25nm more torque and 10 more hp at the same RPM as the Forester XT with the FA20.

Would theoretically mean you could rev it higher in NA form, assuming they plan on making a NA version.

At the same boost, same compression and same fuel too?

Guff 01-11-2018 04:01 PM

It is rated 260/277 at 87 octane. I think this motor can prove to be a great one.

For now I'm quite pleased with my comments.

Only with a corresponding increase in valve area, otherwise you'll likely be making peak power/tq lower in the rpm range. Which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, as long as overall power goes up.

How is this thing dimensionally compared to the FA20dit, is it just a bigger bore? Is it any more feasible as a future swap? What are the odds of the WRX's manual transmission mating to this thing? Or is it still a tight squeeze for our teeny weeny transmission tunnels?

Bigger bore, same stroke. 94mmx86mm
