I joined LNT as a "student" member for $20. What else do I need to do other than wait 6 months from now?

Outbacks are great for a family car. Have you considered the upcoming XV?

I think he is speaking of when the STI first came out it wasn't on the VIP list. It is currently.

correct.

Can options/accessories be purchased at dealer cost as well? I guess it would be smart to get anything else you wanted when you purchased the car as well?

Only factory installed options. Dealer installed options are at whatever price the dealer normally charges (they have SRPs from the manufacturer but the dealer can technically charge whatever they want)

Wife and I just bought a '12 Impreza Sport. 2% below invoice with invoice on dealer accessories. Part of our VIP program.

Well according to Subaru that's not the way it should work. They probably just took the hit out of holdback to move the car or something.

Everything I've seen said it's 2% under the invoice the factory has for the car so dealer addons wouldn't qualify for that, but I guess that doesn't mean the dealer can't give you a discount on accessories.

devinclfalcons 01-11-2012 05:30 PM

I emailed my local dealer about VIP Pricing and here is the response:

"I am sure the VIP Pricing is Available , but I don't think Dealers will Do it . the Order bank is going to Open Soon . If you Order one with US I will sell it for $500 over Invoice."

I then asked why he thought dealers will not do VIP Pricing. He responded:

"We should be able to get the pricing in the Next 2 weeks or so. and as I told you before Dealers are going to get MSRP and more for the car once the car is here , there are 620 dealers in USA and they will produce between 450 to 500 a month . some dealers wont get any . if you can find a dealer that will sell it at Invoice you should put a deposit on it and buy the car. I will keep you posted on the pricing."

The monthly production numbers must be correct, because I got the exact same monthly production figures from my Subaru dealer. I do not have to put a refundable deposit down until I actually order the car, but I am very high on their preorder list. The reason some dealers will not get the car is because it requires additional training and tools, which requires a small investment from the dealer.

My good local dealer believes they are getting 4-6 in the initial shipment. There are 4 of us on the list currently that I know of (it's not a public list yet). One person is getting 2 cars.

I agree some won't get any (nor should they if they are like some of the idiot dealerships I have around here) but any that sell a lot of STIs and WRXs will get plenty IMO.

Good to know that they plan to. Still assumes Subaru will honor it themselves :) I hope they do because I really don't want to resort to playing hardball with a dealership I actually like.

The question is how long will we have to wait before dealers will sell you a BRZ with VIP Pricing? If they can sell their pre-orders for MSRP, will we have to wait until they have several on the lot when they aren't selling so hot?

Here is another quote from my discussion with him about factory ordering with VIP Pricing:

"The Priority will be for the sold Orders. Most sold orders will be sold for $200-$500 Off MSRP and I am sure dealer would want to wait till the car is in and they will get more for it . No dealer would want to sell a VIP at 2% below Invoice , Not on a BRZ, We don't even do it on WRX's or STI's."

Seriously? Find a new dealer. Mastro does VIP on STIs without an issue, and even without it I think I was at invoice after 5 minutes of talking to them on an STI.

That is incorrect. Our VIP deal stipulates 2% below invoice on car and dealer invoice for accessories. Our car was a preorder directly from Subaru and not a lot car. Remember all VIP do not offer the same benefits. It differs. Some are 2% below invoice and some are at invoice. You need to check the details. We did not get any special deal, just what is stipulated by our programs agreement with SOA.

I have heard the same numbers from my dealer. First year of production will be limited to 3-4k units for the USA. So some dealers might only see 1-2 units per month. Dealer said they won't last on the lot for more than a few hours. List is already deep here.

Sure they might say VIP is good. But that doesn't mean SOA says yes. If SOA doesn't say yes, dealer doesn't get the price difference in kickback from SOA. Dealer will then say no since others will pay MSRP+.

Dealers will have upper hand on this car for the first 12-18 months as production catches up with demand. Dealer will get what they want. If you don't like it, they will just tell the next guy on the list and he will be happy to pay.

So should we wait to hear about VIP Pricing or pre-order now?

Up to you. Do you want to be one of the first to get it? Are you willing to wait to make sure you get VIP pricing? Just make sure your deposit is refundable.

Illegal for it not to be.

As for pricing that depends on your relationship with the dealer.

Did Mastro state they would offer VIP pricing on the BRZ? Sanford is not too far from me and I would be willing to preorder based on VIP pricing if you think they would be open to it.

Last time I asked they wouldn't say until SoA decided what they were doing.

Zgrinch 01-11-2012 11:00 PM

Yep same up here... Unfortunately given supply/demand, I bet SOA holds off on VIP for BRZ for a while. Sounds like you have a strong relationship with Mastro, so if SOA votes "no" on VIP initially, are they telling you MSRP or slightly below?

We haven't discussed it yet. Technically they aren't taking orders yet... we will start talking at that level once orders can be placed.

I'm dealing with the Tampa one, but if you are interested I can try to work a group price with them and see where it goes.

Zgrinch 01-11-2012 11:12 PM

Let me know what you find out. I am #2 on the preorder list with my dealer and they have assured me the ability to place an order for their first shipment, and I think they are thinking MSRP.

Edit: yes if you are planning to get one right out of the gate when preordering is available, I would be interested in a group purchase. Run it past them to see what they would be willing to work for a 2 car deal -- something less than MSRP, and if that is the case, I will be happy to send you my contact info.

Hey I'm from the Orlando area so I would be down too if you can work out some group pricing

I havent been to Maestro yet, I figured when they announce pricing I would go put in a preorder

Depends on state and the contract you sign. If it states it is non-refundable....

Good luck on getting invoice on the first year BRZ. Not sure why dealers would even go below MSRP the first year.

devinclfalcons 01-11-2012 11:54 PM

So should I pre-order for $500 over invoice and just wait and see if VIP Pricing becomes available? Then I could get a refund for the deposit and buy it with VIP Pricing if it becomes available?

Has anyone else been offered to pre-order it for $500 over invoice or even a better deal? I feel like this may be a good opportunity that Im being offered here...

I will be trading in my Evo X and putting down a small down payment. Financing the rest. He stated that the order bank will be open soon, so once pricing is announced I would expect orders to begin.

Correct it does vary by state law.

Of course anyone who signs a contract stating it's non-refundable (in a state that allows it) almost deserves to lose it...

I'll talk to my contact at the dealer tomorrow.

Got ya. Sorry I meant purchasing vs leasing.

Just be careful they don't screw you on trade in to give you $500 over invoice. Might want to sell privately?

Good call...

Anyone else get a quote on price from their dealer for a pre-order? Are all deposits re-fundable or does it depend on the dealer?

Who else would pull the trigger on a pre-order for $500 over invoice? Vs waiting for VIP Pricing that is...

NorCalRider 01-12-2012 05:07 PM

I would jump on that deal if it is refundable.

You guys could probably try to push for lower if you get more people interested.

devinclfalcons 01-12-2012 08:52 PM

New email from a different dealer I have contacted:

"If you place a direct factory order for you new BRZ with us we will offer you VIP Partner pricing.

At this point, other than Spring 2012 we still do not have an exact launch date, pricing or ordering capability on the all new BRZ. Please contact me for information on how to be first in line to order the new BRZ. It's the most interest we've ever had on a new product launch so we anticipate much more demand than supply easily through the first several years.
"

Are we still waiting to see if Subaru of America will offer VIP Pricing on the BRZ? Will we know by the time it comes to ordering?

devinclfalcons 01-14-2012 12:35 AM

Both of my dealers are willing to do the VIP Pricing once the car becomes available to order. That's encouraging news for me...
