Quite the contradiction there no? Anyway, not many cars can do low 11s out of the box. In fact I'd say anything under 12 seconds is super car territory. The Gallardo 560 only runs about 11.5 while stock.

lol.

According to that article, 1160kg could be the production curb weight. which is roughly 2550lbs... smack in between the Celica GT-S manual and automatic.

Kitteh

Definitions maybe?

Muscle car: big engine, medium sized car. Fast in a straight line.

Sports car: small to medium sized engine, small car. Quick in a line, and composed around corners.

Exotic Sports car: $$$, fast.

I dunno, I don't claim to know squat about anything for a fact.

But the Mustang used to be considered a Pony car. Which put it somewhere between the Muscle cars of the day and Sports cars. It was designed to be fun to drive yet quick enough. Even now the Mustang only offers a small block 5 liter V8 when both the Camaro and Challenger have 6 liter V8s.

So please forgive me if I come across as a newb in this conversation.

2700lbs?

I have a car of NEAR identical dimensions sitting in my driveway atm and I can't even fathom how anyone could get that sucker to be so heavy without intentionally loading it down with cinder-blocks.

Its gonna be sub 2600 easy with my 'hope' kicking in around the high 2400, low 2500 mark, U.S. spec.

The AE86, USDM, is kicking in at ~2450 stock, thanks to our amazing awesome safety standards that weigh it down nearly 300 lbs more than its Japanese counterpart. The car doesn't have a shred of aluminum on its body, and has a cast-iron block.

The FT-86 will undoubtedly have Aluminum body parts (most assuredly at least the hood and trunk lid) and a lighter engine, while only being slightly wider (by 5 inches) at basically the same length.

The rumored 1160 is probably spot on, but I wouldn't be surprised with 1100-1140kg.

Rest easy friends.

I'll take a wait and see approach. I wouldn't be able to bear the disappointment.

yeah except all new cars of the last decade have been intentionally loaded down with cinder-blocks in the name of crash safety. i want what you say to be true but i'm not such an optimist. even the sw20 was 2600lbs.

More like 27xxlbs, but I take comfort in the fact that the zzw30 was/is a feather weight.

Honestly, I think it looks so much like a last-gen celica that I would not be at all surprised if it eventually WAS named Celica.
