The dealer told me end of April with wishful thinking. He said May would be what they are expecting.

Why didn't you go for a WRX instead? That would be one of the few vehicles I would upgrade to currently.

Better and more modern powertrain, faster stock, and similar fuel economy to a BRZ/FR-S. The EJ in the STi sucks down gas like a full sized pickup.

Not to mention, the stock tune on the STI is terrible, the engine will be just as prone to ringland failure, and the FA motor is in the WRX is better at making boost than the EJ motor in the STI.

Congrats!

And yea the base WRX is the "new" one, but honestly at least your STI doesn't look like an accord :P

Plus there's quite a bit to the "STI" badge other than power... although with the base wrx having a 6 seed now (really how long did that have to take) its closing the gap a little.

Personally if I were to get a WRX I'd get the STI model for sure. Unless it was for the wife I guess, or I didn't want to track it. (Which is probably a majority of the people sure)

Congratulations, Im hoping they bring the hatchback.

Good for you! I've been waiting for a forced induction FRS, but reading all these reviews of the new STI and the news about no turbo coming for the FRS, I'm starting to think I'll be buying the STI also in a year when my student loans are finally paid off.
And since I live in the mountains of north Idaho, there are plenty of good reasons for me to get an AWD car instead of the FRS,....dammit I want a coupe WRX.

Except that the WRX has the FA20DIT which is the turbo version of the engine in our cars while the STi still uses the ancient EJ25 which was developed during the Reagan era. I guess if you only look at horsepower numbers the WRX is "worse", but a much more usable powerband due to the twin scroll turbo and a much improved suspension puts it on par or ahead of the STi for 99.9% of the situations you'll be driving it in. It's something like 8000 dollars between the price of a similarly equipped STi and a WRX, I just don't see the point of getting a car that's slower in the straight line, less efficient, and marginally better in handling for those 8000 bucks.

It's not a huge deal, but when the car is getting worse fuel economy than a full sized pickup with a V8 there's a problem. It's not like there isn't a solution to the problem either, there's a superior car sitting right next to it on the same lot that gets better fuel economy and is just as fast.

Honestly, I have a few friends with WRX's and a few with STi's. They can be quite different to the potential buyer. I will say that for the money, the WRX is the better deal, certainly. It's often even faster in a straight line... But the trick center diff in the STI is something that pretty much nobody will add on later, and the suspension from the factory is pretty great too.

Not everybody wants to buy the base model and spend another 10g to mod it and void the warranty. STi's are quite special out of the box, if you're the kind of driver to utilize it (track/autox/etc) than it's definitely a good move. NOW, if you just bought it over the base WRX to have pointless street cred, that's a great way to waste 10 grand.

Dealer said end of April to May, but car came last week. Dealer kept their promise of the $18,700 trade in even though I put 1,000 more miles on the car. They currently have the car listed for $22,000 on their website.

Here's some pics for you guys to enjoy. The car looks completely better in person. Pictures don't do it justice... It's a machine.

Idk why there's no burnout marks on that driveway yet lol

Resistance- Because if we fight we might lose, but if we don't fight we've already lost.

Well everyone,
I have been lurking on these forums since before the FRS/BRZ twins were even released and I must say it is definitely one of the better forums I have been apart of.

I owned a Hot Lava FRS since the day they were released in May/June 2012. However, I decided to trade it in for a 2015 WRX STi. The FRS was one of the most fun and enjoyable purchases I have ever made, but after this winter, the rwd got to me quite a bit (A lot of hills here). After thought, I decided for an awd. I know, the FRS/BRZ twins look aesthetically 100% better, but the STi will be equally as fun.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the dealer offered me $18,700 trade in for my 2013 A/T with 14,500 miles plus a $800 pre-order discount.

Again, thanks everyone for all the useful information and overall an enjoyable experience! I'm sure I will keep lurking for quite some time.

Have fun with the gas hog ;). And enjoy the insurance hike. But if those are both okay with you (like if it's a weekend toy only), enjoy! The STI is a very fun (if costly to fuel and insure) platform.

MPG went from 28.5 to 20.5. Insurance went up $5 a month. The mpg sucks but the insurance is barely noticable.
