Oh trust me I have many friends who are some high end (or low end on how you look at it) attorneys. Many who owe me some big favors. Why let their skills go to waste?

Thinking about the refundable deposits is kind of strange. If they get a bunch of pre-orders with refundable deposits, then use those pre-orders to set their pricing (pre-gouge with mark-ups on an unknown MSRP in dealer's cases), what is the point if they set to high, and people all walk because the deposit is refundable?

Are there a bunch of people that have put in non-refundable deposits?

Or is it going to be like pulling teeth with delays, pressure and assorted other BS to get your refundable money back when a $28k Limited with $3k markup is the lowest you can find?

This is why I've been planning on a year and a half after release, since '09...

<<<<<------- LOL'd at being able to fit in the trunk :)

Yeah, Im definitely with u guys on this one. Imm not worried if the BRZ itself will be bad, but concerned about getting a defective one once I hop in "mine". The Lemon law(s) cover those kinds of things tho, right?

People are going to complain about things regardless of what Subaru does. It seems like a lot of members here hang on every single word a new member comes in with whether it's pricing, release date or production numbers when in reality nobody knows anything. If you are THAT pressed about getting your car asap then you're in for a rude awakening & I hope you take your deposit back and buy something else, leaves more for me.

Subaru & dealers know these cars will sell like hotcakes, 90% of dealers don't give two shits about honoring anything (lists, deposits, promises of no markup) because they know the cars will be off the lots as soon as people start driving them and realizing what great cars they are. On the flipside it could be a flop but I seriously doubt that will happen. Best thing anyone can do is sit tight and stop stressing about it all so much.

Since all the pre-orders have been input under the assumption that each potential owner has their own preconceived notion of what they think the price will be, it would be absurd for Subaru to deduce they can increase the MSRP based solely on the amount of pre-orders, especially with dealerships knowing plainly their prescribed allocation. For all Subaru knows, all the pre-orders could bail if the price is over $19k. It's all assumption and rumors; which is a moronic way to do business.

Dealership: "Well, we've tenatively sold our modest allocation of BRZ for the model year. Let's keep taking deposits and just lie to everyone and say it'll be $25k for the hell of it and piss off everyone!" [not likely]

SoA: "Well, there's a few hundred pre-orders, so let's guess that those buyers are itching like Dave Chappell on coke to buy this thing for $40k and just price it to the moon!" [also not likely]

Buyers: "Well, I dig the car so far, and everyone on the forum seems to collectively decide it'll be $24k Premium & $26k Limited [+1k for 6AT], and that's reasonable, so just in case it all works out, I'll put a refundable deposit down to hold my place in line until SoA gets off their arse and announces actual pricing" [for reals]

Can we get a redo and say collectively that it is $23k Premium and $25k Limited? :)

Sure, I won't complain. :happy0180: That'd be more money for coilovers and summer rolling stock.

Sure, that will be the price for them both... at some point in time ;-)

Oriental Life 03-07-2012 11:36 PM

I don't know what you are talking about, but dealers who contacted me, were very careful upfront about the price range and all said, 'BRZ will start at around 25K for Premium and will go all the way up to 30K for Limited fully loaded'

Markups, MSRPs, options - I'll never discuss those before official release. If you push your dealer to commit to a certain price before official price is known (MSRP, Invoice+X) you are just looking for trouble.

Well said. A lot of people on here are in for a rude awakening when pricing comes out. We already have a thread of "blacklisted" dealers. People expect something, they trust these salespeople when there is NO information on pricing or availability then get all up in arms when the dealers change their mind. It's idiotic...blame nobody but yourself if you put yourself in a situation to be disappointed.

Sit tight, wait it out and you wont have to deal with the stresses of buying a car with no price or release date.

Indeed. Good thing you weren't here to post that in the socal group buy thread where the string up the scumbag dealer ball really got rolling ;-)

I've seen my share of idiocy on this forum & just like all the other forums I've been a member of it's better to just keep your mouth shut in times like those. I've dealt with quite a few shady dealers who tried to screw me but in the end you just gotta be aggressive, that's the only type of attitude scumbag salespeople respect. If you go in and let them know you mean business & won't deal with bullshit most likely you'll be fine. If you show the smallest sign of weakness or ignorance they will walk all over you. I learned this the hard way.

Don't put yourself in a situation where you can be taken advantage of, if you go out on a limb and you get fucked, honestly I blame you. Good luck finding a dealer out there (or any business for that matter) that won't take any opportunity to make an extra buck off an uneducated customer. They are very few & far between.
