All I know is when driving in advanced run groups here in NorCal, it's easier for me to pass an FRS in my S2k then it is for me to pass an S2k in my FRS.

Perhaps that will change in time when the FRS is a more developed platform but it doesn't appear to be the case right now.

Can you list your mods to each car?

That S2K looked squirrely at times.

stock to stock with just brake pad and tires, FRS wins easy

Assume vid. Love the camera angle too. You can see the sparks from the brake.

of coz its depend on the driver, but if its same driver, I'm sure stock FRS will have a better lap time then a stock S2K because S2K is much harder to control without a wing. Once the s2k has some suspension and GT wings, the FRS won't able to keep up even with the same mod.

Huh? The Griffon project already showed the 86 w/ full aero, suspension, brakes, tires on a stock motor can post a faster time than the NSX and 458 around Tsukuba.

mtsui 09-16-2013 12:03 AM

mm.....can you even build one? I was talking about basic mods that us can do to it. the Griffon one has only 2200 lbs and that is almost impossible to do it. I think S2000 with this kinda of mods and weight is able to run that time in Tsukuba or even faster

People have their cars down to around 2500lbs easy w/o using CF, Lexan or other uber exotic bits. The point of the project is to show what the chassis can do w/ the stock motor. Can you buy a race ready body kit for the 86? Yes. Can you buy a rear diffuser? Yes. Aero bits? Yes. Brakes, wheels, tires, etc, etc? Yes.

If you think about it, it's not at all that impossible to get close to most of the parts list on the Griffon. The ASM S2000 was getting around the same times before they started cranking up the power and went even crazier than TRD w/ weight reduction (305hp/2,151lbs) to get 59 seconds at Tsukuba.

So I don't think the S2000 necessarily reacts better to upgrades than the 86. Apart from double wishbones and F/R weight distribution, it doesn't really have any other advantages apart from stock power (and less torque). 86 has better CoG, torsional rigidity, base weight. Rest of the dimensions are within 1% of each other except wheelbase.

anyway, It was only my opinion about s2k and 86 and what I see on my local track. although I like how the S2k drives on track, but I still love my 86 and doing great lap time on the track.

S2000 - suspension work, 255 hankook rs3, track pads
FRS - oem suspension, 225 falken 615k, hybrid street track pads

The main difference is suspension and tire width. Do the same mods to my FRS and it will be respectable but I still think it struggles to match the lap times of my s2k.

Recently added aero (wing, splitter) and a stoptech bbk . I expect the gap between the cars to grow significantly. I'll be doing a shake down on sept 27 @ T'hill

Completely disagree!!!!!!

If I had 1 lap to save my life I'd pick the s2000 everytime.

manonastick 09-16-2013 11:23 AM

I reckon its extremely fair run in my opinion. The frs made up with ecu flash and intake/exhaust to get the power boost on the other hand the s2k is running mainly stock bits. . . and im sure all s2k owners including myself know how heavy the stock cat + pipes are.

I think the s2k is the slower car because with even all the mods the s2k is way harder car to drive than the frs. The frs is easy to drive with heaps of potential its only before time before the s2k is out of the game. The s2k even though its made from 2000 to 2009 its still a 13year old design . . with barely any changes throughout its life time its respectable and great for new car to be compared to but its a old car. I sold my s2k for brz because the brz is such a wayyyyy better car to drive in "most" situation and feels better alot easier to drive. Though the honda engines are unbeatable in characteristics the FA20 is better balanced engine for "all" scenario soo easy in everyday traffic while the s2k you will be embrassed to rev to 4~5k just to get moving and not really get anywhere but such a racey engine characteristic which is very honda like lol

The power boost from bolt-ons/flash are not enough to equalize the FA20's output with the F22C.

Perhaps early AP1s are harder to drive than the FR-S but the revised suspensions of the AP2s make them equally easy to drive as an FR-S. They are both fun and can out handle many cars costing much more $.

I wouldn't call the s2000's age a drawback. It is a very well developed platform that has proven it's track worth with time attack track records even to this day. The FR-S aspires to that kind of respect in the track going community but it definitely isn't there yet. I hope we can someday say that it has equaled they high bar still being advanced by the s2000.

The only situation I prefer the FA20 in is daily commuting. It's feels torque-ier in the low part of the powerband which is convenient for a daily driver. On the track, I don't believe there is any contest. I would take an F22C all day long. I enjoy the higher output, screaming revs, and rock solid reliability in the face of track abuse. I would gladly swap the FA20 for an F22C and not think twice.

I'm not embarrassed to rev to 4-5k. I think you are exaggerating the s2000s low end ability. The lower part of the power band will still move the car fine in traffic. I have to rev the FR-S the same way to get it moving. Except now I always shift before 5k nowadays to preserve my DI seals.
