I will be completely straight, I am only doing the FI build for the experience and to just see if this car would be worth the money if Toyota/Subaru offered an FI STI model at around 34k.

I think RTR is probably the perfect class for this car, as it responds so well to good tires, sway bar and even shocks. And you don't go broke.
I may return the car to this class anyway if I am not happy with the FI.

STX is a pretty big money sink hole as well. As you could easily unload, 4-6k on suspension, ECU tune, intake, exhaust, tires, bars, bushings etc to be competitive. And the car still still suffers in straight line acceleration for street and track.

Really staying NA or going FI you can dump a lot of money based on your priorities. But as this thread is about FI on track, I can promise there is more than meets the eye in terms of prep and money.

Question will be is it all worth it?

I don't really understand why you've turned this into an FI vs NA thread. The OP asked for FI guys to contribute to it and I don't see a lot of that going on here.

I googled cvr ... looks nice I wish my local track had that surface!!

Here's an example of why I want more power (and brakes, better suspension setup, slicks, and ... and ...).

AVO TURBO BRZ Needs moar power!! - YouTube

There just... isn't any solid data on that yet. That's what we're getting at.

$90 for Laguna Seca? Living in Kansas sucks!

ramiram1984 05-14-2013 12:31 AM

Pretty sure everyone would track their car if they could afford an FI upgrade. That's a no brainer.

I am not arguing NA vs. FI. I am arguing that there is not enough data or evidence to make any concrete decisions yet about the deleterious effects of FI and I am offering an alternative strategy (which does ultimately end with adding FI) that builds on the car slowly as you improve in skill, comfort level and awareness. As others have pointed out there is so much more that needs to happen for FI to work harmoniously with the rest of the experience.

It is a difference in philosophies. Not everyone will agree with mine. I used to be in the other camp. My main focus was power. I ended up building cars that I hated or couldn't drive effectively on the road course.
@robispec I am going to be putting so many miles on this car if you keep tempting me with parts/track days down in SOCAL. :bonk:

I'm so jealous... I'm not going to MRLS this year :(

Dezoris 05-14-2013 03:55 AM

I wish someone would do an LED washer nozzle install for the track and see if its faster.
