more video with an nice in depth look @ the design of the car with long time Ford designer Moray Callum (sometimes i wonder if he's related to Ian Callum, chief designer @ Jaguar Cars)

the '13 Fusion has picked up the "BEST IN SHOW" award for this years NAIAS:

Sometimes it's hard to be patient. Usually, we announce the Autoweek Editors' Choice awards for the Detroit auto show during the Autoweek Design Forum, and we will do so for the 2012 show on Thursday, Jan. 12, at noon Eastern.

But here's a head start: The redesigned 2013 Ford Fusion sedan is our pick for Best in Show. We're telling you this early because Ford was so excited that group design vice president J Mays came around on Wednesday to pick up the trophy from Autoweek editor Wes Raynal--and Ford couldn't help but jump for joy in 140 characters on its Twitter site.

Raynal said, "The Ford Fusion bucks the midsize-sedan trend of playing to the broadest common denominator. The Fusion delivers bold styling that projects a more luxurious message than we expected for its broad, family-car mission."

The winners in the remaining three categories--Most Significant, Best Concept and Most Fun--get their time in the spotlight on Thursday. Until then, take your best guess at the winners, and see if your instincts match those of the Autoweek editors.

Front grill can be lower and the headlight can be bigger with new headlight housing. Anyway, this looks like a huge improvement over current model.

the height of the hood sits where it's at thanks to European pedestrian safety regulations that dictate more space between the external area of the hood and the hard parts underneath (engine, etc.) to mitigate the chance of/or injuries that occur in a vehicle/pedestrian collision. i'd rather enforce the idea "watch where you're going", because as it is pedestrians take too much for granted.

Indeed. I just don't like when they went with grill if pedestrian is concerned. Maybe they can fix the head light for mid refresh to fit the grill. I don't see headlight and grill go well together at all.

I think Ford is the only American company that can still design and build a great car.. Well, aside from a Corvette (and that has it's haters of course).

But this new Fusion is a great example that America can still provide something.:happy0180:

agreed. GM doesn't appear to have a sound strategy other than mimicking some of the steps Ford has been taking lately. Chrysler may be having a bit of a recovery with better product but the European economic situation could hurt progress of the turnaround being that the company is owned by Fiat now.

First, it's an ok looking car. Nothing that would catch my eye, but Ford is uping their game. Their new cars are looking pretty good compared to the rest of the American manufacturers.

I'm pretty surprised that you guys aren't knocking it like many do about Korean/Japanese makers copying designs as you can't get worse than this knock off. The nose is completely Aston and that rear is completely a Kia Optima if I ever saw one. I sense a little bias here. Hey as an American I'd like to see our car makers, and our economy, get back to where it was, but let's be fair here. This car is about as unoriginal as one can get and it's such a rip off of other designs that it's not even funny...

ever wonder where all that excitement comes from when you're listening to Jack Hollis talk about the FR-S...well if it wasn't him it would be this guy, Jim Farley, former VP of Scion now VP of Marketing @ FoMoCo

New Fusion makes a very compelling case. Well done, Ford!

I think it works like this, if the ripoff looks good, then people say "wow that looks like X!" If the ripoff is not so respectable, they make fun of the company for ripping someone else off. Example, Hyundai Genesis. I think I've seen more "it looks like a Mercedes! that's pretty cool" rather than "wow, what a Mercedes ripoff". Example, Chinese car company rips off Subaru Forester design (not a very attractive car IMO). "Wow, it's a Forester clone/ripoff." And here, Aston Martin is probably one of the best companies to be copying, lol.

When it comes to styling, I think there are things that are universally recognized as good looking, so I don't think it's a big deal when companies come out with cars looking awfully similar to other cars. Too much creativity, you get something wacko like Acura.

It's a beautiful car. Wish they'd make something similar in 2-door with a 6 speed manual, that'd be pretty kickass. :)

Facelifted Ford Fusion Revealed With 325hp 'Sport' Variant

Quote:

The facelifted 2017 Ford Fusion has just been introduced at Detroit and alongside all the obligatory design changes, it includes a new performance-focused variant complete with all-wheel drive.

Starting with that new variant, it is dubbed the Fusion Sport and utilises a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It manages to pump out a total of 325 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque and as Ford is happy to point out, is more powerful than the BMW 340i. Power is transmitted through all four wheels but at this stage, no performance times have been announced.

Beyond its powerful engine, the Fusion Sport comes complete with continuously controlled damping and a pothole detection system which can adjust the shocks the instant the car hits a pot hole, to dramatically reduce the impact. Compared to other Fusion models, the Sport can be picked out due to its more menacing styling which includes enlarged air intakes, 19-inch wheels, a gloss black mesh grille, rear spoiler and quad exhaust pipes.

Elsewhere in the range is the Fusion Hybrid, Fusion Energi and Fusion Platinum, utilising the same powertrains as before. That means the Fusion Energy has a 7.6 kWh lithium-ion battery which offers a 19 mile range of all-electric power. It can then be used in conjunction with the 2.0-liter petrol engine for a range exceeding 500 miles.

On the technology side of things, Ford has installed the facelifted Fusion with its SYNC 3 infotainment system that includes voice recognition, a touchscreen display, improved performance and an easier-to-understand graphical interface.

The 2017 Ford Fusion has yet to be priced but will arrive at U.S. dealerships in the summer.

2017 Ford Fusion V6 Sport breaks cover with 325 hp and AWD [video]

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17F9Dzd_Is8[/ame]

Quote:

The 2017 Ford Fusion facelift has arrived at the North American International Auto Show and it brought along a V6 engine.

It turns out the rumor was true as Ford is indeed launching a V6-powered Fusion "to leave other family sedans - including Honda Accord and Toyota Camry - in the dust." At its heart is a biturbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine generating a projected 325 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque channeled to an all-wheel drive system. The Blue Oval company emphasizes the fact it has around 100 lb-ft and almost 50 hp more power than segment rivals Camry and Accord.

Besides the stronger engine, the Fusion Sport also gets a tuned six-speed automatic transmission and a continuously controlled damping suspension. It has received a serious of cosmetic tweaks to boost its visual appeal, such as the large 19-inch wheels, blacked-out grille, and quad exhaust tips.

In other news, the 2017 Fusion facelift lineup now includes a more luxurious Platinum trim positioned above the Titanium variant. It comes with a bespoke front grille finished in Magnetic paint, 19-inch polished wheels, and antiqued Cocoa & Venetian leathers. Ford will sell the Fusion Platinum with an EcoBoost 2.0-liter engine linked to an AWD arrangement.

As for the Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi (plug-in hybrid) models, these two come with software revisions to enable a smoother and more engaging drive. In addition, the electric motors have gone through some changes to deliver increased all-electric range and improved fuel economy.

All 2017 Fusion models will take advantage of Ford’s latest SYNC 3 infotainment system, upgraded cruise control, pedestrian protection, and better parking feature with support for perpendicular maneuvers.

Pricing kicks off at $22,995 for the base Fusion, followed by the Sport trim at $34,350, and the Platinum model from $37,495.
