Nice to hear Toyota is staying true to the original car, and not giving into the turbo heads. I'd take that weight estimate with a grain of salt honestly. 2800lbs? For a car THAT size? Its almost like they were trying their very hardest to get it to weigh as much as possible. Sounds way off. |

How could it be 2800 pounds? The trunk must be full of dumbells. :bonk: |

You guys do know that the S2000, which seems to be the car most similar in size and dimensions as the toyobaru concept, weighs over 2800 lbs, right? This is what I predicted.

We're talking about an entry level car in the toyobaru, costing approximately 21 large. Newsflash: it's going to have heavy, standardized parts on it from the existing Toyo or Subaru parts bins to keep costs down. There is no getting around that. |

Well maybe if it revved to 9k 240hp wouldnt be bad. |
^^^ That doesn't mean there won't be a TRD or aftermarket FI option...
Yeah... I'm going to to dial back my enthusiasm a bit until I hear something more encouraging regarding power:weight. One bright note: It could be Toyota has not indicated the weight of the concept because they intend to make the production version significantly lighter -- let's hope so. |
The weight wont bother me. 2800lb will be ok as long as the car handles well and not like a muscle car. Toyota knows that they have to keep the weight down so maybe 2800lb is not a for sure thing.

I'm not saying S2k is overweight. Just saying that S2k & GC8 (JDM ver) weight bout the same. S2k = FR NA 2L 9RPM 240hp. GC8 AWD 2L close to 8RPM 280hp. Just feels that S2k should of break 2800... but all those statements are just my selfish thoughts. |

Electrical mechanism to lower the roof in 6 secs??? |

If it were designed as a coupe, I imagine the convertible version would weigh slightly more due to the need for extra chassis stiffening once the roof was chopped. |
I'm saying that this is a concept car all spiffied up to ooh and ahhh the masses.
Since its a concept, the official weight of the actual production car is yet to be known. The only thing the concept has really shown is the relative size of the car, which matched exactly what Toyota said they were aiming for back, what, 2 years ago? They also stated they wanted to keep this thing ~1200kg area (or about 2600lbs), and you know what? Pretty damn sure they can do it without making that pricerange go any bit higher than $20k. And didn't this weight estimate come from some reply to some guys blog? "I think the engineer...",...yeah, thats not exactly valid, official, nor backed up information there. "The engineer told me that this car actually weighs 1600kg, and will probably be about 50mm taller in height at production. Oh, and the RWD thing? Its all a FARSE! EAT THAT ENTHUSIASTS!" See, I can say things too on some random website. |
