OK sounds good. Does Radio Shack carry the 16 pin harness (both male/female)? I'd like to fabricate a plug n play solution if so.

Tell me more about the speed sensor switch. Just a toggle? Flip it off when you want the car to stop locking you out of the screen (you can't even punch directly to a sat. radio station), then flip it back on when you want it to do a speed signal again.

Does the nav really even need the vss anyway?

Yes just a toggle, works exactly as how you described it.

VSS is meant for when the GPS antennae loses signal, it can tell how fast you are going so the NAV can keep up. The most useful place for this is somewhere like a tunnel where the antennas have no chance of getting signal. I have been expiramenting with running the VSS switched off, Ive been driving around town since I did this yesterday and with no VSS it has yet to lose track of me. That being said I have not been going through any tunnels, near tall buildings or anything else that would block my signal.

You won't find them at RS, SVXdc has found a source and will be selling an inexpensive kit shortly.

Hang in there, I need to iron out a few install details, do some testing on when the head unit sees the camera input (BRZ), then write a good DIY

VW - Were you able to adjust the guide lines?

jpit 08-23-2012 11:26 AM

The BRZ sees the rear camera when the gear shift is in reverse (does not see it when just the ACC is on). The lines are going to be difficult to get rid unless they have some type of software upgrade. For those ordering cameras make sure your camera doesn't add lines also or all those lines will be distracting

I was able to get into the setting to adjust the guide lines, however it would not recognize the camera in the settings mode so I could adjust the lines but not see the picture from the camera, just a black screen with the lines. This made it pretty difficult to get perfect and I did not have a lot of time. I'm gonna try and mess with it more after work today, ill take some pictures when I get it right.

Also the settings menu had some other options for the camera that the short manual did not go into detail about so i'm going to have to go through the longer manual and see what it says.

Mine does come on when the car is in ACC mode. The only hang up I have right now is the camera only works if I put the car in reverse before the radio finishes booting up. As long as I do this it will continue to work until I turn the car off. If I let the radio boot up before going into reverse it will not recognize the camera at all. I believe this has to do with me getting the cameras power from the reverse lights and when the radio boots up it is not seeing the camera and locking out that option. When I hooked the camera up to a jump box it would work perfect so now I need to take the car apart again and grab power from somewhere else.

There may be power on the trunk bypass switch.

It looks like the switch gives the BIU a ground, so no power.

This is interesting. I have mine hooked up like yours (except didn't ground the grey wire) and I'm using a self-powered small video player with video out capacity (don't have the camera yet). Rear video picture does not come on with the ACC but does immediately come on (with the ignition on) when I put it into reverse whether the radio is booting up or just on. I guess one alternative would be to have the camera powered all the time when the ignition is on. With the hu from my previous car you could turn on the rear view camera at any time but don't see that as an option here.

I take that back, after just checking again mine does NOT work in ACC. Only in the on position. That is probably why when trying to adjust the lines the screen was black with no video showing.

How did you get into the settings to adjust the lines?

with the car in ACC just hold down all three buttons on the radio and it takes you into a settings mode. This mode has a bunch of settings in it and I did not mess with any of the others since they seem to be a bit more important than just camera lines. I would not recommend messing around with it too much.

@Will - The audio amp in the trunk has a 10 pin connector, pin 8, green wire, looks like a remote turn on from the HU.
"AMP+ OUT Amplifier signal"
