Anyone have any idea on 2023 orders opening up? I'm ok getting first in line for a MY2023 for fall delivery sometime

Given how little freedom Subaru and Toyota allow the customer with options, the significance of being able to order your own car basically comes down to having the freedom of picking the car's color. Especially since most are produced in the boring silver/gray/white shades.

Thats true in theory but with the lack of cars on lots, placing an order is now the best way to get a car and potentially avoid unwanted accessories/markup.

This is somewhat fascinating. I had taken the ability to order a Subaru for granted until recently. My '22 BRZ is our seventh Subaru, none were on-the-lot cars, five of them have been complete special orders. I was a little on the fence about it but my 2013 had 105k miles and just starting to show a tiny bit of rust, so I figured the new car was a good excuse to trade it in before its value started dropping as it rusted more. Turns out they gave me more money than I was hoping for and $500 off the new car, so it worked out fantastically.
Meanwhile, my wife's driving a '21 Veloster N. You can't order a Hyundai, period. We wanted a blue one. It look me seven months of talking to the local dealer, checking nearby dealer inventory (originally looking for a '20!), calling dealers, four times of being told a dealer had a car then later being told that someone else just bought it, and finally got one that was about 240 miles away, last February. Fortunately, we had a snow-free weekend to pick it up and drive it home on its summer tires. What a nightmare to track the car down - the car is really great though. On the other hand, ordering a Subaru is so trivial. I remember when ordering my first STi, I just called the dealer, told them the color and accessories I wanted, and it was ordered. So easy. I figure, for what a new car costs, I want to get exactly the car I want. I've never bought a Toyota, so I don't know how they operate. |

We just had someone back out of their Ice Silver Metallic Limited order due to arrive in March if anyone is still on the hunt for an available unit.
Located in the Bay Area, DM me if you have any questions or interest. Cheers |
When I heard all the noise about the order book being closed for the 2022 MY, I dropped by the dealer and they confirmed that my order had a VON, so unless the sky falls or Dr. Faucistein cooks up a new plague, I should get my BRZ in March, maybe. I ordered last November 30th and it appears it is the only one they have without a VIN. Are there allocations that limits the number of orders they can promise? The people at YouTube must be trying to get at me for some evil reason. I was tricked into watching some videos of some dude in So-Cal doing a major RICER job on his 2022 BRZ. Nothing he did would enhance performance; it’s all low rider cruiser style. Nothing wrong with that as long as it is something like a Chevy Impala from the 60s. His car started out looking exactly like the one I’m waiting for. He has an FRS he’s already tricked out and for me it’s like scratching my fingernails on a chalkboard. I watched the progression from stock to Ricermobile and when the headliner went in for the fiber optic starscape treatment, that did it for me. But, the best part for me is that he seems so surprised and put out when he gets numerous citations for driving a car that is no longer street legal. With the vision of the RICER in my head and the thought that my car might never show up, I looked to see what other car I would like. It would have to be something that I could write a check for without have to tell my wife first what I was up to. Going on the Subaru website and building a BRZ takes all of 60 seconds, if that long. Burning though most of the afternoon putting together a Porsche 918 and trying not to go too far over $100,000, I threw in the towel. So many options and then when you latch on to a certain setup, it becomes exclusionary and you have to go back and rethink your wish list. The next day I came up with a build that included all the “need this and that” and a few “want that” and discovered that I likely won’t live long enough to get one. So, I looked to see what new and almost new Porsches were available. Nothing that was more than 2/3rds of how I wanted the car. I did see one that I would at least look at to see if there was any attraction. A couple of thousand miles away. That knocked the wind out of my sails, so I went to Costco to get a hot dog and do the treasure hunt to put the whole thing out of my mind for now at least.
