I've never had a problem finding the setting that works for me 6'1. But the seat was a bit narrow, would have to shoe horn myself into the seat back and the shoulders would be pushed forward. I'm glad the seat has started to relax a little so it's not so bad. I feel bad for the even bigger guys.

I get it , people want their seat / driving position to fit like a glove. The reality is, when a manufacture designs an interior, it's an assembly line production ( 99% of vehicles) , so you get what the manufacture produces. If it's that bad / uncomfortable / wrong, then there's always the aftermarket, where hopefully you find the winning ticket on the first try… either way, it costs you more money in the long run.
Or buy used, gut it , and go all custom on the interior. Then the money you do spend on the interior upgrades could be offset some by the lower used price paid. |
Even with my aftermarket Recaro Sportster CS, no there is not a perfect seating position in the FR-S for me (6'2" 185lbs, longish torso). Seat is still too high (really needs to be dropped 2", which isn't possible without INSANE effort and a fixed back seat) and seat bottom needs to be raked back even more. Can't see the light signals at intersections without bending down and looking up and have to choose between either my legs or arms being comfortable. The ONLY car I have ever had a perfect driving position in was my '98 Camaro RS... because track car with roll bar and fixed aluminum seat. Seat, steering wheel, pedals, shifter...all exactly where they needed to be:
Camaro seats-1 Camaro seats-2 camaro - come at me bro... https://youtu.be/7v6bjq4UAFY I have same issue with my Nissan Frontier, but I bet I will be able to fix it with Recaro Sportster GT (updated CS) and get perfect seating position unlike in the FR-S which simply doesn't have enough room to go lower with a bottom mounted reclining seat. |
Seat height is really my only complaint. It's tolerable until I wear a helmet. Even with the headrest flipped. Really just need it lowered 1-1.25"s.

Welp, back in the day in my 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V, I didn't have this getting comfortable problem - :D

That brings back memories...in 1979 my parents left town for my Senior Prom weekend. As Pops was leaving he tossed me the keys to his all Black Mark V, winked with the understanding I'd take it to the Prom. Well...little did he know I had my own set of keys made that week...but, it was to the Orange 1973 911T... The Lincoln sat in the garage that night. Off Topic Rant ended... Just drove my FR-S 8hrs yesterday...Wasn't uncomfortable...was stiff and my right leg was aching...I'd laid it side ways with foot under the brake peddle (was on cruise control) after the console made my knee cap sore... |

I’m 5’10” with pretty long legs. I initially had trouble with reach to the wheel, but found that simply moving the seat forward a bit so I had some bend in my knees worked well. Now that I’m used to the position I feel really comfy, and feel like I’m sitting on a bench in other cars.

Most Miata owners love them but do bitch about the seats. I had four different sets in my two Miatas and was never fully satisfied. The twin fit me terrifically from the start. I'm 5'10" 200 lb. Excellent lumbar and side compared to what I was used to. For track I used to move the Miata seats way forward and sharply recline to get my helmet below the bar. The semi-supine position reminded me of a Lotus Europa. |

I've lived in some places where the street lights are hung over the closer side of the intersection which makes it tough to see in most any car. But here in Houston they're across the street. |

I'm 6'2 and 180 pounds. I have a lot of leg.
My only complaint is that the brake needs to be 2-3 inches back, and the gas about 1 inch back. That way I could get closer to the wheel. My setup is: The wheel is pulled towards me as far as it will go (I wish it came forward another inch.) The wheel angle is basically parallel with my chest so that the rim just touches the top number of the tach - probably not good in a crash as the impact will all going into my chest and my head will hit the rim. My seat is at the 3rd to last rail position *it is the 5th. I also have the seat back 1 stop away from 90 degrees. The seat is also in its lowest position and I still have 2 or so inches of headroom. I'm betting that Porsche and other mid engine cars feel better because the engineers don't have to deal with a crazy firewall or any of the other stuff in the engine bay which frees them up to position the peddle box and steering rack how they want |
