I've landed! Fudd who? :P

Seriously though; I can attest to Fudd’s car audio knowledge for he has forgotten more about the topic than many others will ever know. So you can listen to his advice without fear of misinformation.

Just as a side note for you 86 owners; we’re currently putting together a couple of installation tutorials for the 86, similar in vein to our existing ones we’ve written for various other manufacturers.

What's this "Car Audio" you talk of? :)

Good to see you onboard Marty!

If you have the money, i would go the Alpine unit http://www.alpine.com.au/showItem.php?item_id=277
or the pioneer
http://www.pioneer.com.au/au/product...0BT/index.html

I wouldn't even consider the Sony.
if you were going to go something a little cheaper, the Clarion unit is pretty good

Cheers mate .. lots of help.. my black gts 86 gets here end of sept.

after reading all the reviews of the speakers systems and the head unit what would your recommendation be ?>

keep the GTS head unit and replace the speakers ?
Maybe chuck in a baby amp for the rear or something?

i also cant find any additional info on the GTS head unit and its outputs for amplification etc? do u have any idea?

fuddbutter 08-01-2012 08:14 PM

Well, i believe the HU/Satnav that comes with the GTS is an off the shelf Eclipse unit, if it is, it will have 3 pair of pre-outs, Hi/low/Sub (or L/R/Sub). So you will be able to hook an amp up quite easily, the only problem i can see is Toyota may not supply the cable.

There is a Molex connector on the back on the unit that the RCA out's plug into, whoever installs it may not plug it in for future use.
But you should be able to source one pretty easy.

The Eclipse unit it would be more than fine i reckon, with a decent amp on it

Does anyone have any pics of a double din unit installed with the required fascia kit? I'll be upgrading the headunit from my GT when it arrives, but am curious to see how good/bad the plastic wings look to fill the gaps toyota insist on creating.

I'll probably be vinyl (carbon look) wrapping the plastic parts on the dash, and will probably wrap the wings too, but it'd be nice to see what they look like out of the box.

Found this elsewhere on the forum.. Looks so cheap :( Are there any units in AU that are 200mm wide?

Does anyone have the Pioneer P8450 installed? Just want to ask if the torque app works with this head unit? Or the Sony XAV-701BT7 does the torque app work with this head unit?

Thanks

I have the pioneer appradio 2 in my GT, had to use the fascia kit but I think it looks ok.

Can be had pretty cheap off Ebay and can use satnav and other apps from phone which is handy.

That's what I'm running:

It's a really good headunit. Just note you need to get a separate module for Satnav.

Did you need to rewire or is there a harness kit for it?
