@ATL BRZ Now that you've had these tires for a while what's your thoughts? I'm pulling the trigger in a set next week.

They've been awesome. No complains. They recently put up with three days worth of abuse including full 20 minute sessions at Road Atlanta with 120F surface temps without getting greasy at all. Relentless dry grip and great wear rate. Can't ask for more.

How about specifically the AD08R?

34 hot is significantly better than 38 hot, but I suspect still a bit too high. I'm going to try 32 and 30 hot next time out.

Haven't been out driving nearly as much this summer as last year and haven't played with setup at all, been busy hanging out with this guy:

Tell me about it. Little man was born last October.....

I've found 32 works well.

I've had 4 HPDE track days on these tires so far and really like them. Coming from Hankook RS-3's, these Maxxis VR-1's have much stiffer sidewalls and the notorious road noise (humming @ 70-75mph) is nonexistent.

My current alignment (-3F/-2.2R/0T) doesn't seem to work well with these tires. The outside shoulder is showing increased wear vs the inside (No, I do not have a pyrometer, just visual). Although 3 days at BW CW13 is pretty abusive on the front driver side tire. 36psi hot, will try lower 33 or 34 next time.

I will try increasing the camber to -3.3 or -3.5 at the next track day - Buttonwillow CW13 - 2:06.22

Curious to see if others have run into different or similar issues?

EDIT: 255/40/17 - 17x9

yeah kinda....

edit: Before that weekend, I had flipped the tires on the wheels, so the damaged shoulder used to be on the inside. I knew the tires were almost dead, so I was extra rough on them that weekend.

edit2: damage was to rear tires

edit3: they gave up on me mid-corner. See 4:50:

Any insights on the new "S2" compound?

Can you elaborate?

There's another company that advertises a "VR1 S2".

Now the actual VR1S2 is a compound update... should be rolling out soon, but hasnt hit the market yet in all sizes.

The 225/45R17 VR-1 94W XL S2 is available on the Maxxis site now. Have you had a chance to try them out? Big change from the original compound? Does your original assessment still hold? Better than the RS4 at a similar price?

Am I being dense or is this just cryptic?

I can't talk about anything yet.
