The OP is in CHINA. They don't have FRSs there they have 86s which have exactly the same features as the BRZs. The ONLY place where they are not exactly the same features is in North America. |

Isn't this Toyota's design in general? And Subaru had a new boxer they were dying to try out and then it was the FRS/BRZ
From what I read, the CEO of Toyota was walking thru the show room (Im guessing every car built is in there? dunno) and says "where is the passion? Lets build a sports car" Then subaru reached out with the rest and it was born. Look at the car, it looks nothing like no kind of Subaru Ive seen (except for the vent window, which I love even though its non functional. But it looks much much more like a Toyota 2000. Listen to the car it sure as hell sounds nothing like any Toyota, it has that familiar boxer rumble to it. It's a good mating pair and I think they did a good job, but Subaru does sell more than Toyota and I think that can be blamed on the SCION badge which is a brand that I love and was loyal to me for ten years. Someone said a better quality of folks buy the Subaru? I buy what I like and whats a good deal. At the time I didn't see any Subaru's near me and their both the same car and I love Scion. The one reason, and main reason I chose this car. It looks incredible and nothing on the road looks like it. Someone ask my wife was it a Fourty thousand dollar car. It looks more expensive than it is IMO, but some think the opposite. When I buy cars I look for value and performance dollar and fun, I don't look for finish grades and buttons that do a million things at once. I drive it I don't live in it. My mustang didn't have junk in it ,this car has no junk in it. It's simple basic and fun. I love the retro old school sport and super car look to (look at the old Ferrari's, , old European gull wing cars, look at most old vintage race cars, the FRS/BRZ looks very similar. That's just my take on which is best, neither is best |

OP: Id get the special edition with the 2.5L. It has turbo so it goes vroom neeeooorgh and cruashhhhcrash when you crash, but if you can drift in a straight line itll go vroooomm nrghhh nrgh tchhhhshhhhhhhhh and it sounds real cool, then the suicide doors increase wave length so you get like 40mpg hwy and 30 in town. It's only available in Asia so you are so lucky!
Please take pics when you get it! Quote:

Heh auto that's cute this way your grandmother can drive it. Anyways I'm not justifying myself to a kid which is what you sound like judging from the terms you used. If you're not a kid, perhaps you should grow up. You sound very high quality sir! A regular harvard graduate. Also I don't think the thread is about you now back to child's table |

Few things.
1. OP is from China. IP address is from China. 2. Some of y'all need to chill. Back on topic. OP, please check here for cosmetic difference: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2998 Like some of member stated, interior is almost same due to Scion is only US brand. Toyota 86 give several different grades (G, GT, GT Limited), if you exclude TRD, 14R and other limited edi. Subaru BRZ is about same as well. IF you're coming to US for some reason and looking into purchasing Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ then Scion FR-S have only one model vs Subaru BRZ have 2 different grades. You can find all other detail info EVERYWHERE in this forum and Scion/Subaru website. Search and if you need more specific questions, ask. ichi |

But here's the thing: even 11 year old girls know that the BRZ is the better car that all the cooler people drive. Everyone else is just beta. And once you own a BRZ, the coolness always follows you in whatever you drive. You get double cool points if you get a WRX next, but it's poseur points if you own them at the same time( I'm talking about YOU, @DSOmegaX). |
No offence but you have one of the ugliest cars in the world. I think kids should be seen not heard. You have no respect for anyone I can see that and you really have no business talking to me because you and are generations apart and world's apart and sounds like you really know nothing about cars other than what's todays fad. So with that being said. Asta. Have a nice life kid

You want to know what I think? I think that YOU'RE the one that wants my approval in order to be associated with high quality people like BRZ owners. It's kinda sad when you think about it. |

I'm not posting this for the OP as they may or may not be in China but rather I will post this for anyone else reading this who may also have the same question.
Both cars are nearly identical. It is true that the Subaru comes with some better options and costs more. But the main reason why I got an FRS was because Toyota offered 84 month financing (at only 1.8%) whereas Subaru only offers up to 60mo. otherwise they make you take a bank rate which is like 6 or 7%. I would have taken the Subaru had they offered proper financing but instead went for Scion which was far more affordable in the long run. I also am really impressed with their service thus far; I am coming from a Volkswagen which was just a complete nightmare. Edit: I am in Toronto, Canada |

& make it interesting, I'll add some pics to go along with this story. lol http://images.pistonheads.com/nimg/2...SanGT86_17.jpg Chief Engineer Tada-san was called up by President of Toyota (Akio Toyoda) and ordered to stop what he was working (nothing crazy, simple eco car) and bring few mens to start on new project. This was back in '06. https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media...olubcc7jpg.jpg He was told to make whatever car he wanted. It could of been high power, high speed, crazy style or ANYTHING. Only one condition, it have to be SPORTS CAR. He and his team went through several of old Toyota glorify sports cars. Old as 2000GT and new as Supra to get some ideas on what would people want. Designers for FT-86 Concept walked everyday to work passing through several Toyota sports car display (like 2000GT). Of course, design looks like 2000GT and few other Toyota Sports car. As a result, they made few concepts, one was FT-HS. http://www.banpei.net/wp-content/gal...-concept-8.jpg After several months designing and re-designing and more re-designing, they finally show off FT-86 Concept. Showing of FT-86 Concept at TAS with massive positive review and feedback from both inside Toyota corp and media, they went off to work more on FT-86 Concept. http://jdmzipties.com/wp-content/upl...3/TPCR-011.jpg His idea was NA engine with lightweight RWD car that owner can mod or do whatever they want to. Which Toyota made several car like that. Famous one of all is AE86. He contacted Moto-san from Club4AG and get some feedback and idea from him. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....d-genboxer.jpg While working on this project, Toyota bought partial stock of Subaru. Tada-san thought that "This might be some kind of fate, how about using Subaru's new engine?" So he asked President, if possible to work with Subaru on this project and they brought few men into this project. Which he thought was a good idea, but Subaru didn't see that as a good idea. Countless months of debating going nowhere saying "It's ridiculous" or "That's impossible". http://image.motortrend.com/f/wot/sp...19931.jpeg.jpg He have finally convinced Subaru to make a hacked up car using Subaru parts. After few modification done and both Subaru and Toyota test driver and other engineer drove it, only thing they could say was "Huh, it's actually not bad" & smile on their face. After that, project went smoother... but there were several issue they had to go through (not gonna list em all). http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/1...1130b312lr.jpg Countless hours of debates, sweat, blood, tears, test driving, fixing, adjusting, fixing more, re-designing, re-engineering, even raced in 24hrs Nur and gave more than 120%, here we have it. Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ. Again, take this as grain of salt. Source: Me. Meeting & interviewing Tada-san and other designer/engineers for this projects & talking with Moto-san countless hours. |
