I get more smoke per mile than miles per gallons, being Sc'd I don't count but let's just say you guys with your 18-20 mpg in the high rev have it good, I start led footing and bye bye mpg's
|
This thread makes me feel normal when I used to question getting 28 mpg and friends got 31+. After mods I get 20-25 mpg and don't hang out at high RPMs.
|
100% city and i am getting 22-23mpg.

Want 30+? Drive around 60mph or keep under 3k rpm. Keep all shifts around 2.6k and speed up slow, lower car interior weight (i.e. lose weight) If you bought this car for mpg, may I recommend a trade in for a Yaris? BTW, elevation also matters. I drive 68mph in cruise control. I get 28.6 mpg avg with some city driving. My elevation is about 48ft above sea level. Without city driving I range 30-32. I can totally see higher rpm=less mpg. 17 to 18 mpg city. Now 15.5 soopahcharged
|
24mpg city/highway, highway only gets closer to 28-29 if I can control myself
Hint : I can't |
Good thing to know everyone 's mpg is so low. LOL... I was wondering if my cat is getting clogged since my avg mpg dropped to like 24.
After all I made the 1200+ mile trip to seattle in 3 tank of gas only 5 months ago. |

I've only calculated my mileage manually two or three times, but the car MPG display shows an average of between 30 and 31 MPG with a mix of city and highway driving. Car is stock, manual transmission. With MT, I've noticed that any speed past about 72-74 MPH and you're going to start taking fairly significant MPG hits. |

Over 74,219 lifetime miles I've averaged 32.7MPG which includes a lot of tom-foolery during commuting (I race nearly everyone away from the lights and rarely see an off-ramp I don't take twice as fast as I should). That said, even with commuting 40 miles each way to work I spend a lot of time on cruise at 45 to 65MPH. |
I've tracked every fill-up I've EVER done since I bought the car. That means I've got 14 months of data spanning 24,400 miles, and 912.17 gallons of gas (costing $3,004.11) to draw from. Here's my information:
Avg MPG: 26.846 Min MPG: 18.324 (that was snow-storm shenanigans) Max MPG: 33.979 (highway road trip) Avg gal/fillup: 9.21 Avg mi/fillup: 246.8 I've noticed that the in-vehicle average readout is consistently 1.5 MPG HIGHER than what I am actually getting. I live in Chicago. So my average will be lower than many because a lot of my time is spent in heavy traffic, or on streets with low speed limits and lots of traffic lights. When I'm driving on the highway, I tend to do somewhere between 70-80 MPH unless the speed limits are lower. I have a 2015 Series.Blue, which is important to note because the underbody aero trays are good for a Cd of 0.27, as opposed to 0.28 for a limited (with the wing) or 0.29 for a wingless Toyobaru. This means I theoretically get slightly better highway mileage than most. This driving was split between the OEM Michelin Primacy HP "low rolling resistance" tires during the warm months (mounted on the stock STi wheels, which weigh 18.4 lb, or ~2 lb less than the normal wheels), and General Altimax Arctic winter tires (205/55R16) mounted on very heavy steelies in the winter months. I rarely spend much time above 4K RPM. I tend to shift between 3-4K. One thing I did notice on my most recent road trip (which was on the winter tires) was that when the temperature was in the 30-50 degree range, I was only managing 29 MPG on the highway, whereas the second half of my trip occurred in 60-65 degree weather, and I got 33 MPG. A pretty big difference that one might attribute to the colder, denser air putting up more of a fight against a 78 MPH moving object. Hope this info is interesting to some :) |
so either i started driving different after the 20k mile mark or something else ..
I used to average 28 mpg ... now im averaging 23 mpg ... im hoping its the ignition coils/batteries going bad lol |

I average 26-28mpg with 30% city and 70% highway. But I work in the LA area where highway driving is pretty much city.
|
My worst recorded was 16.36mpg / 14.38L for my stock auto. Mostly city driving.
See sig for history along with mods and their effect. |
Someone asked how I'm measuring. I'm going off the readout on dash. I'm guessing it's a combined. I haven't taken any mathmetical measurements. I tried the 65 mph thing going home. Ugh

Fuel is always 93 on these trips. Car is stock so the variation in weight would be passenger and luggage. A couple of the trips were two passengers, and fully loaded with luggage (say 350 to 400lbs), but most were single passenger, minimal luggage (under 250lbs total). Trips were measured nearly full highway miles, no stops between fuel ups except variations in traffic, and usually fueled up right off the ramps. Lifetime is typical commuting which involves all the variations of daily driving. |
My average when my car was N/A was around 30 mpg.
Now that its turbocharged I get around close to 21 mpg or less since I love that BOV sound  |
According to the trip computer I get 28.7mpg, exclusively city miles - no highway. You guys must beat the hell out of these cars daily to get the MPG I see on here. I don't go nuts, but I don't baby it either. 26 miles each way through Atlanta traffic, and my MPG is not bad, its actually about the same as the 2012 Sentra I used to have
|
Guys, keep in mind, I'm pretty sure the trip computer isn't just overestimating by 1.5 MPG on my car. Id be willing to bet similar discrepancies for most of yours as well.

That's pretty close to my observation. Calculated over 77,000 miles my average is 32.7. The trip computer, which to my knowledge has never been reset, although it is possible the battery may have been disconnected at some service somewhere, shows 33.7. Both methods are subject to some level of error. Using the fill and calculate will tend to run a little low over time because of the differences in what 'full' means based on how the car is sitting when filled and other variables (you are more likely to underfill it to "full" than overfill it). Depending on whether or not the computer uses real fuel flow versus some other estimate it can have its own share of errors. |

Calculating fuel usage yourself, however, is extremely accurate, as you are eliminating a lot of potential for error, and are left with a few basic assumptions: 1. Is your odometer accurate? For all intents and purposes, yes. Assuming you aren't using the trip meter, it's only accurate to the nearest mile, but even across one 30 MPG tank, that will only throw off your estimate by a small amount. 2. Is the pump dispenser accurate? For all intents and purposes, yes. LEGALLY, they are required to be INCREDIBLY accurate. As far as whether or not your tank always fills to the same level, you are correct, there are differences based on how your car is sitting, and how sensitive the pump shutoff is, however these errors only matter on the very LAST fill-up that you are including in your measurements. If you are calculating an average across a bunch of fuel-ups, then the errors introduced in-between don't mean anything. You know how MUCH fuel was put into your car across all the stops, you just can't be sure that your last fuel-up accurately states exactly how much fuel you used since the previous one, because it might not have filled to exactly the same spot. Essentially, all of these potential errors, if you distribute them over several fuel ups, become statistically insignificant. If you do the math over my 25,000 miles, or your 77,000 miles, you can be pretty damned sure that the number you come up with is pretty much EXACTLY what your actual average fuel economy is. This is, of course, assuming you can properly read the pump, and record the numbers, and do the math without screwing up, lol :) |

i'm just happy i'm getting better gas mileage than my previous car; a '78 Datsun 280Z with triple webers. i got 12-13 mpg out of that for the same route. |

I don't get why people think you have to track or race to enjoy these cars. Mine gets DDed like it was a Corolla but I didn't want a Corolla I wanted this. It is a street car that can be used on the track not a race car that is ok on the street. |

Ultra, next time you see Steve give him a slap in the back of the head. Or a hug whichever seems appropriate at the time. |
No, that's totally understandable. He just made it sound like he drives to work back and forth and that's about it. I don't understand how you can own a car like this and NOT put a shit ton of miles on it, lol.

Agreed with all that. Over time it all averages out with either, but any one tank may have small variances, but probably less than 1MPG in the end. A story about fuel pumps though. They are very accurate, but they also can be manipulated, particularly if computer controlled. A few years back a lot of stations were caught playing to the measurements. The pumps were tested at specific intervals (say 5 gallons and 10 gallons). The software would be manipulated to run faster between say one and three gallons (pump less fuel than the gauges showed) then speed up and catch up by the 5 gallon mark. This article is outside the US, but basically explains it. http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/...icle534795.ece |

also, with an 8-yr old son, we're usually doing other stuff on the weekends so there's not that much opportunity either. but, i do seize the opportunity to drive the curves when i can. trust me - i LOVE riding and driving in the canyons. before my son was born i was riding the canyons weekly and do track days on the bike. but, my priorities changed after he was born and he became my favourite hobby. hence, the low mileage on my car. |
I might have to never have children, then, lol. Mine is a 2015 and I already have 25k miles on it and I take the train to work on most days, lol.
|
I get 26/27 mpg on highway cruising 80+, add in a lot of 90+ and you see why its around there. If you drive like grandma 70 mph you can expect 30+
