I got my Buddy Club seat mount in. Weighed it to compare to the above Sparco rig @ 19.2lbs.

The Buddy Club weighed in at 9.2lbs, woohoo!

Much less to it compared to the Sparco setup:

Great idea getting those Buddy Club pieces!

:) Now if I just had the time to install them...going to be out of town for work the next 2 weeks.

Finished the video of the Sparco seat installation process too!

Most recent event went well. Finished 6th overall in PAX out of 80 something...2nd overall in the Non-BMW street class (BMWCCA event).

Just completed our first summer championship series with SCCA over the weekend. Kind of disappointed as our first heat was in the cold and my second run it was raining. No co-driver meant for cold tires and for some reason we were waiting 25 minutes between runs. Just a struggle with the car and tires until my 4th run, when it was just beginning to warm up, where I managed a somewhat respectable time. Good enough for STX class win but my normal competition, Greg (Silverspeed) and Dave, ran in X (expert) class in the next heat (and were both quicker).

Sadly I was having technical difficulties with my GoPro/Solostorm and only got video of my first run and part of my 2nd run when it was raining. Neither of which are worth posting up because they were so slow haha. Got some action shots below though.

Oh well, my first Pro Solo is next week in Lincoln followed immediately by Springs Nats Tour! Should be fun and hoping the weather will be good :party0030:

The car looks great. Love that color.

Wanna put a Snickers bar on Spring Nats? :)

That was a smoking fast time for the morning heat. Nothing to be disappointed about.

Hah, sure, I'll buy your snickers bar now :D

I figure if I can be within a respectable time of you and some of the other fast guys, I will consider it a success.

First objective is making it through my first ProSolo without any blunders though :bellyroll:

I've heard the new LED lights are a blast... Just make sure you have someone to check your pressures in between runs and go have fun. They're way more fun than a tour.

And I think you'll be very competitive out there. I think me, you, Greg, Matt, and Craig will all be right in the mix. Bart always has the potential of sneaking up there too, and there's several names I don't know, so it is really anyone's game in IMO.

Cool, will do on the tire pressures.

Thanks!

Put together a video comparing the Sparco and Buddy Club seat mount setups. Quite the difference :o

Also, I will be trying out some fancy new social media like Instagram and Snapchat in an attempt to bring more real time and behind the scenes action from autocross and race events.

Finished my first ever ProSolo in Lincoln today and first ever national event in Project FRS. Had the last trophy spot (4th position) locked up until a friend I met last year, driving a BMW 325is, put down a smoking time on his last run and bumped me out of the trophies beating me by .007 seconds  (yes 7 thousandths).

Ended up 5th but can't complain. I had opportunity to go faster today on my last runs and really didn't drive well, made mistakes and struggled with the left side course which had water on it.

Champ Tour starts tomorrow morning! :burnrubber:

1 snickers bar coming your way. Hell of a good weekend, buddy!

For sure, really made you think hard about how to approach certain elements.

Ooops, I forgot to post up the results from the Springs Nats Champ Tour! Car was working better for that event after making some suspension changes after the ProSolo on the Lincoln test course. Mostly happy with how the car is working out there, now I just need more seat time to become more consistent and get to that next level that the really fast guys are on.

Been lazy with updates on local events. We had our series event #3 a weekend or so ago, ended up 2nd place to Mr. Santel as he edged me by 2 tenths on our best runs. He did put down a crazy time on his last run out (we got 5), but unfortunately grabbed a cone. That would have been .6 seconds quicker than my best coned run (cones that could have easily been avoided for both of us).

I'm getting more comfortable with the car and it is working well, minus a little corner exit push if I don't setup the entry correctly (fixable). I am working on getting the rear to rotate quicker when I shift weight to the front (either by brake or lift). Right now the rear sticks pretty well and it is hard to slide it when I want, I had the same "issue" with my e36 STX car. Hard part is getting it to do that and also be stable/grippy in high speed transitions and slaloms.

Working on the video this week, in the meantime, some cool photos :)

@justinco Are you doing the EBD disable?

Yes, I have been. Actually, in the last event (these photos above) I tried with just the buttons (5+ second hold) to test.

My friend Brian (Briankbot on here) and I got into another discussion that weekend on which is the best approach. He heard, or read somewhere, that the pedal dance limits ABS to "1-way" versus "4-way" when you just use the buttons. The thought was 4-way ABS would help brake the car quicker and in a more controlled manner.

We have no scientific evidence that supports either way, however :D I just tried with the buttons to see if I could feel a difference in the driving behavior. It did seem like the car stopped easier, but that could just be my imagination or from the suspension changes I made at Spring Nats. Who knows...I might try to test the differences again when we have a Test & Tune coming up.

justinco 07-14-2016 07:04 PM

So I had the car into 3R auto for a new setup and corner balance to try and fix a couple minor issues (mostly corner exit understeer and inability to trail brake slide the rear end on entry). Chris Mayfield did some magic and the car feels a good bit better and noticeably more balanced. I was finally able to slide the rear on demand when needed while still being mostly stable. Need a bit more seat time in it for experience and learning to drive it better. I've feel like I have yet to put in a solid run end to end, so definitely room for improvement.

Last weekends event ended up 7th in PAX out of 157 and 2nd in STX again behind Mr. Santel by a few tenths. Video up for enjoyment! :D

What are you running for an alignment? (if you're willing to share).

I'll snap a photo of the setup sheet when I get home :D It's around -3.1f/-2.8r for camber, toe is mostly neutral.

Justin, you better ask Chris if having 31 psi in the RR and the other 3 tires flat would throw off the alignment... :happyanim:

Thanks for sharing.

Swapping all of the goodies over? :D

Excited to hear your thoughts on the comparison between them.

justint5387 09-30-2016 01:32 PM

Why would you want shorter gearing?

No, I don't think it is all that much better. I wanted the new car and various non-performance upgrades over my FRS, not necessarily because I thought it will be more competitive.

I don't, see above :) The gearing definitely has me worried, it will be a gamble, but we'll see. People thought the ND's were screwed because of their short gearing and look how they are doing now (I also drove one of those and it feels much shorter geared than the new BRZ).

Once I get some miles on the car, that is the plan, after a baseline dyno session of course.

justint5387 10-02-2016 08:01 PM

The difference with the ND is that it doesnt have a longer gearing option.

ND performs well because it is much lighter than S2000, so it makes up for the gearing.

I was thinking ND vs Twins in CS comparison.

Anyways, I'll find out soon enough if the gearing works out or not and I'll let you all know :)

If it turns out to be way too short, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. It is still a nice upgrade from my FRS and lots of fun to drive :burnrubber:

Me too! I'll be able to post an overlay of my stock FRS dyno graph versus this one, should be interesting to see. Couple weeks :)
