They just dont recommend the cans for large areas because they suspect people who are doing this are noobs at it.

Also right from their site:

They do not recommend the aerosols because of even-ness. I bet you if you got the stuff in a gallon with a spray gun it would be good.

Thanks for finding that for me :)

It's pretty good stuff so long as who ever is applying it does a good job. Poor application is the main problem people have.

Was planning to do it for my mirrors. I thought about vinyl for the roof but I might change it to autodip if it works better than vinyl.

I'm actually doing my mirrors gloss black as I'm writing this. I'll post a photo once I'm done.

NICE! looking forward to the results as I was about to purchase some covers from japanparts.com. Please comment on ease of use and how the product cures if you can :)

EDIT: man, shipping is expensive. $15 for a "super can" (how big is that anyways?).

The cans have a lot of spray in them. Shipping was pretty terrible which is why you should buy everything you need in one swoop.

But they have Orange orange so orange peel isn't a problem if you get that color and turn your 86 into a rolling fl orange

The slight black two tones bother me. Still looks good tho. I think I might dip the whole mirror assembly so it doesn't bother me.

I've always had this dream of owning a Brembo BBK in their infamous gold. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4312462a73.jpg

But being I can't afford that, and let alone it doesn't quite make sense for daily driving, I'm thinking of using this Autodip to cover my calipers. I probably won't be able to exactly replicate the iconic color, but I'll try my best by blending Autodip's Metallic Series Gold and Copper.

I figure 4 coats of gold with 2 coats of copper should do it. And then by seeing how it's coming along, I'll decide which color to apply as the final coat.

I know this isn't recommended for calipers as its a high heat area, but I'm willing to take my chances and see how it all holds. It peels if all else fails, right?

It's new. I havent seen much coverage about it. I was going to try it for my roof but never really got around to it and then I ended up vinyl wrapping it at a local 86 meet that we had.

Thoughts?? I think it'll be revolutionary. It's basically spray on vinyl. It doesn't turn out matte like how plasti-dip does.

I think once this become more popular people will begin to wrap/paint their whole car with this stuff.

Autodip- The Game Changer
By Karla Real
Plasti dip, we have all thought about it at one point. Does it look good? No. Does it stay on long? No. Here at the SEMA show we were able to talk to Mathieu Di Veta President of AutoDip -the world’s first premium peelable automotive paint.
“Autodip is a peel-able premium synthetic paint developed specifically for the automotive application” Di Veta told CSJ. Autodip allows you to customize accessories, protect wheels, and even full bodies without damaging the original finish.
When CSJ talked to Di Veta he told us how they had tested this product on a new BMW M3 with over 6 finishes and after peeling the AutoDip off the car, the original paint was still immaculate. This is a new product that has not yet hit the market and it is going to be a game changer. The affordable prices and the variety of colors will make this a very strong option for all of us tuner heads.

I bought Autodip and did my stock wheels with it. it came out great and i loved it but within two months it turned to shit. it was peeling off and chipping. I applied it just as they said on the website. It took 4 hours to do it, and after 10 coats and 4 cans it only lasted 2 months.... i would not recommend this to anyone

It's unfortunate that you've had that experience. I've had the dip on my aftermarket wheels going 8 months now and it's still holding up, excluding a few chips here and there which should be easy enough to touch up.

tracerit 02-06-2016 10:18 PM

how does the AutoDip feel afterwards? Is it tacky/sticky or slick?

I Plastidipped my exhaust tips and I'm afraid to even scrub at it when I'm cleaning my car, so I just splash water over it and call it a day.

If it's applied correctly, it should be slick. I wouldn't use it on hot surfaces, but people have been applying it to brake calipers...so exhaust tips might work.

I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recomend to NOT do your brake calipers in any spray vinyl wether it be autodip or plastidip. You will need paint that can take high heat because brakes do generate a lot of heat.

I second this. It would work about as well as putting a balloon in the oven

You can vinyl wrap them. We used to do it at my work all the time with special brake-wrap material. Holds up great.

So there's a specific wrap for calipers? Spray on vinyl seemed so much easier. 😩

Yes there is Vinyl for brake calipers. I'd consider this light duty only (car shows, street only cars in good weather etc) even though it's high temp and from 3M.

The best spray on application for brake calipers I've seen is G2 Brake Caliper Epoxy
