Maybe not but its 0-60 may not be great since it will need to shift twice to reach 60 unless it has some crazy gear ratio.

Siriusly.Andrew 01-31-2011 11:00 AM

the 6MT in the 04/05 Matrix / Corolla XRS (while said to be weak) did the 60 mph sprint in 1 shift. I know the gearing is different in the 03 models but I'm not sure how different.

This isn't to say this transmission will be used, but I'm saying a 6MT can do 60mph in the top of second gear.

70NYD 01-31-2011 11:21 AM

My rx8 does 110kmph in 2nd gear (9500rpm)
U have to remember that tC isn't a Performance car exactly.. So you can't base your opinions on it ;)

I would lose my consciousness being in that monster.

NESW20 01-31-2011 02:36 PM

i poop 27 seconds at Tsukuba. X1 is weak and slow.

:D

Anything below 8 seconds will be quick enough for me. I'm hoping it's slower than 6 seconds, or we may be looking at nasty insurance rates.

Keep in mind, this is supposed to be an affordable sports coupe.

Not for me, if I'm currently driving a heavy FWD automatic that does 0-60 in 7s and if a real RWD 6 speed sportscar with identical power output cant compete with that theres definitely a problem.

BTW the X1 isnt really astonishing.. its like saying the batmobile can lap nurburgring in 3 minutes.. yea, and my octoturbo'ed semi can pull 60gs on the skid pad.

Would Toyota go as far as to think about insurance rates when trying to make this an affordable sports coupe? Seems like that wouldn't be a very influential factor for a company to consider when building a new car (considering they have so many other standards to meet).

Edit: I voted for the fastest 0-60 time, but I was being silly. I guess I was being a little too optimistic on the weight/power ratio (crosses fingers for a sub-2700lbs curb weight).

On the contrary. Which is why they'll make it a 2+2 rather than a 2 seater, among other things.

Allch Chcar 02-02-2011 01:01 AM

More like 7+ unless you mean the turbo version.

Insurance is a big factor on keeping sales going me thinks. What are insurance rates like on Subaru performance models vs the standard ones?

For me, about 250 on performance model(STi) and about 100 on regular Impreza. I'm under 25.

Is that per month? Or per year??

Per month most likely. At 18-19 when I checked insurance for just me it was $300 a month. Last year I was (internet) quoted $80 something, I just laughed, no bloody way. I was paying $110 on parents insurance and I thought that was a steal compared to solo.

I can't imagine insurance with vehicle liability on something with any value either :bellyroll:.

70NYD 02-02-2011 02:16 AM

cheeeez i pay 1100pa and im 23.. thats full comp 2

Sorry, It's "per month". and What? 23 and pay only 1100 annually? What is your insurance? LOL

70NYD 02-02-2011 06:11 AM

I'm in Australia :p that's why I was asking I didn't know first hand how u guys do it in the states ;)
And its 1160 actually I just looked at my papers.

Dark 02-02-2011 01:49 PM

No wonder, people in the US get ripped off.:bellyroll::bellyroll:

So 6.0sec or 7.0sec is no different for me. I'm already ripped off.

70NYD 02-02-2011 07:23 PM

Yeah but while I found that deal through a reputable company, if I went throughout the major bank to get insured (commonwealth bank for eg) I would have been paying 2700pa and on the same page others found me uninsurable (like allianz insurance).. I could have been also payed 1700 through justcar which is a subsidiary of allianz, but my access would have been like 1100... Lol fuck that.. But luckily I shopped around and got a deal through aami :)
Get this my gf (drives a bone stock yarris, first car) was with allianz ins and while her premium started at like 80pm it slowly rose to like 140 over a year and a half while the value of her car dropped (also the value she was insured for..) she switched to aami as well(actually b4 I had this car so I followed her suit sort of thing)
My premium is for a fixed agreed value as well :D

I had been shopping around the town, most of insurance companies are the same to a new driver. My monthly charge dropped to 115 from 200 after 2 years. Not bad at all.

NESW20 02-02-2011 09:27 PM

i pay roughly $75 per month for my truck, and like $30 per month for my MR2.

I wish, I can say the same... Several speeding tickets plus few accident (all of the wreck weren't my fault) isn't cheap on my insurance.

Allch Chcar 02-04-2011 06:33 PM

I ran a few dozen quotes past the Geico website. I could get cheaper insurance than my parents! Like $100 vs the $140 they just had updated. Kentucky has a screwed up system that bases many things on your credit score including your insurance rates. And mostly due to only one pastdue medical bill that was for the physical for college that was not paid by insurance and my current student loans I have a decent credit ratings or something. I could get a step above basic PLPD for $45 a month without comp/coll on a '96 Mustang(just as a test vehicle). It's probably low balling but that's almost half what I was looking at a year or two ago.

And 5 years clean record, nothing, nada, zilsch :D.

^LOL! I really "LOL'd" and I think I threw up a little in my mouth.

Maybe too much power wouldn't be a good idea (at least for me). This would be my first RWD car and I wouldn't want to be spinning out everywhere.
